Weapon proficiency prob

Post by Elminister »

I have this weird problem. At least I think it's weird.

My character:

Race: Drow
Class: Ranger

A Drow is proficient with large swords as far as I know and a ranger can use two weapons at the same time(dual wielding + ambidexterity).

When I equip two long swords and go to my characters record and click on the 'Weapons and Armor' tab I get the following info:

Main Hand: +0
Base +1
Proficiency -4
Ability +3

Off Hand +0
Base + 1
Proficiency -4
Ability +3

My question is: why is the proficiency -4?

The last time I played the game I didn't have this problem.

Btw: I'm sorry for my poor english.

Grtz, Nino.

there is a penalty applied whenever you wield two weapons. this penalty is reduced by ambidexterity and two weapon fighting feats but there is always some penalty as well as the bonuses you get from two weapons.

edit: not sure about icewind dale 2 but i know in other games, like nwn for instance, the penalty is reduced if you have a smaller weapon in your shield hand, rather than two weapons the same size

He's right, you will only suffer -2 to each attack if the offhand weapon is small. The small error is minor: you will have this minimal -2 to hit if both weapons are small as well (you can use two short swords, for example).
