Can't dual my archer

Post by Johnny »

I apologise if this specific issue has cropped up, as I couldn't find anything in search.

I've started ToB fresh with a new character, a 16th lvl human archer, and want to dual him to mage. To experiment, I used ShadowKeeper to set all stats to 18. However, I am still unable to dual him. The dual button isn't even active, as if I was playing a non-human. Am I missing something?

That is because if you have choosen a kit you aren't allowed to Dual class and that sucks.

But what about all the kensai-mages out there? Isn't kensai a kit? I'm confused.

There is a good explanation for this. As far as I know there are 3 rules to dualling.

1.) Human

2.) Stats must be high enough

3.) The first class you are must not be a kit and must be dualable (for example, no archers, paladins, barbarians. It has to be a mage, cleric, thief, fighter...)

However, I am not sure about Kensai/Mages. I think they have to be mages first and then dual to kensai. However, I really have no idea. Anyways, I do not think its possible to dual your archer.

Tough break

Ah! So archers are one of the restricted classes, such as monk. Too bad. I guess an archer dualed to mage would have been insanely powerful (I mean, devastating sniper skills + spellcasting = perfect party support).

The problem you face here, my friend, is that you are trying to DC to an invalid MC option. You tried to DC a ranger-mage.

Here are the valid MC options:

fighter-thief
fighter-mage
mage-thief
fighter-cleric
cleric-thief
mage-cleric
cleric-ranger (!!!)
fighter-druid
fighter-mage-thief
fighter-mage-cleric

The combinations can be found in the BG2 manual. I hope I didn't miss any.

you guys are really mixed up :D . Alright heres what you need...

Human

15 in prime req of first class 17 in second

It has to be a valid multiclass, but kits are allowed for first class

And Archer and Stalker kits CANNOT dual class with the expantion

Thats it.
P.S. if you search for dual classing you should be able to find some guides

I'm glad Kellen sorted it out for you. The only raanger that can dual is the one without a kit and the Beastmaster. This, for some reason, was changed with ToB. The Archer /Cleric makes little sense anyway since an Archer cannot master a sling. The Stalker/Cleric would be great, though, backstabbing with a quarter staff or a club.
