BG/TOTSC > BG2/ToB

Okay i completed bg2 with a paladin, but i've decided to start from scratch (i.e. BG) with a mage and then bring it in to bg2. My question is when importing my mage will his equipment come as well? And will he have a higher experience level at the start of bgII cos i've gone through totsc? Thanks in advance.

No he won't have any equipment at all.
There are several ways to bring it with you (which some consider cheating), but right now I don't remember any. Try a search on the board about this and something should turn up.

You'll start with the experience you got in BG1 and TotSC, provided it is higher than the experience that you usually begin in BG2 with.

One way, pause the game as soon as the black screen appear - after the loading screen. Then go into your inventory and drop everything to the floor, unpause the game. You can pick them up after the open cinematic finishes.
