Becoming Evil
Ive been playing d&d for a while now and I was wanting to spice it up by becoming evil. You might be thinking 'right...and?', the my question im asking is-
Does anyone have any suggestion of how do evil without the party realising (even outside the game)? I understand that I can talk to the DM through a note but this still creates suspicion. I do understand the term metagaming but I would like to try and make the party fully believe me.
I understand this is difficult without knowing whoses in the party and the situations we are playing. Im just looking for general ideas and situations for example, a friend of mine would kill people in their sleep and another one would 'accidentally' shoot another with an arrow.
So any evil suggestions welcome :mischief:

Torture devices in a bag
Overuse the instruments of pain... Kill someone by "accident"

You should make it a habit to pass notes to the DM. Of course it raises suspicions, but in our group there is still no way to know what to be suspicious about, since everybody does it from time to time, and not just for "evil" purposes.
Take contact with your DM when no one else is there and explain your goals and motives, that should make him provide you with opportunities as well as force the other players to leave the room at critical moments by his own initiative, which wont raise suspicions.
I also recommend that you drop the "evil" thing, and figure out a more realistic motivation which might make your character behave immoral or disloyal to the group, if that's what you're after.

An idea I liked was, to put disintergrate on a holy book, and give it to a church, when they speak a curtain word, it triggers the spell.
Zombies are not real! The Government is still doin Human trails!

Thanx for the replies, I think ill definatly get used to passin notes. I know how to be dishonest to party members but yeah a motive would be a good start.
What about greed?! Not very imaginative motive but if im an Orc who worships Gruumsh I should see everything as mine anyway.
Ill lie and tell them im an orc fighter raised by good humans (acting a bit dumb aswell) but really im the evil twin brother (who was not given away and brought up by good humans)of my last character who tragically died from an explosion in our recently aquired stone keep (god damn those vampires!)
If you have anything else id love to hear it.

Gheh... have a secret behind a secret, I say.
Say you want to be evil, ok, put another lie before that. Like the evil twin idea, that good but it needs covering up.
For example, act like you have an intelligence of 8 but have an intelligence of 13. Don't SAY you have an intelligence... just don't correct them when they say he's stupid. :mischief:
<Name> smash stupid human!
... oops man is dead.
What's a better excuse then being dumb?
And when they figure out you are not dumb but actually smart, have an coverstory for that. Like you are incognito/in hiding. Players think they found your secret, but it's only the tip of the iceberg. The more secrets the better... to a certain extent naurally.

Anything having to do with the reaction to enemies faced, or prospective enemies. Realistically, an evil person would strive to see to it that an enemy encountered would not live to leave the situation alive unless they could profit from it. An evil fighter wouldn't be likely to allow a few straggling goblin's wander off out of sight after being wounded by one. Chances are, he would hunt each and every one of them down, and murder them in a way that would be made to be seen as a warning to any others who stumbled upon the bodies.
An evil wizard or cleric asked to get information from someone wouldn't use a detect truth or mind reading spell, or at least not that alone. They would relish the opportunity to use their skills to torture them, enjoying the fact they can dig the information out.
An evil archer wouldn't have any problems putting an arrow into the back of a thief who stole from them. It's the small things that truly bring the person alive. You'll want to play either a manipulative and cruel, or downright brutal and aggressive person.

Evil is sometimes just to (ab)USE people, for a certain goal and afterwarts (or if they know too much) kill them,
If you're evil you still got friends and (unless chaotic evil) Honorable feelings.
in a Evil Campaign...:
A friend of me is playing an Evil rogue-assasin, HE just wants to kill
I play in that campaign a BlackGuard, I only kill when someone is Good, the rest i leave alone
I also HAVE PLAYED a Soulknife who was N-E, he simply didn't give a d*m to kill, but he wouldn't actually do it for no reason....
Just trying to say that Evil isn't always killing and looting,
sometimes doing good things in a bad way...(like the sound of that sentence..)
I personally like N-E or N-G....you're not really bounded to a law or a rule, and you help or you refuse to help/kill.
i really don't like to be a
paladin or Lawful-Good..

How to cover evil?
Looking to everyday live, a lot of evil is done by people believing to do good. If you actualy have an intelligent character (so the rp fits) play the 'I meant it for the good', 'with the best intentions', that kind off thrash.
another nice one: framing
If your a rogue, with palm item, pick pocket, whatever, you might have used it to rob some unsuspecting fool. How about planting an item that is unmistakably yours on him? Run to the guards and acuse him, most thieves get a hand cut off. Best is if you do this with npcs noone liked anyway. It might be difficult to pull it off with a king.
Think on on these lines, I bet there are a lot of things you can come up with wich are, ofcourse, not your fault, but cause others, probably innocents, great harm
You don't have to be a crazed mass murderer to be evil, and you dont have to send notes to the dm too much if he knows what your up to

One doesn't have to murder and steal to be evil. Many years (many, many) ago I had a NE mage who was simply power hungry and a slight but immoral. He didn't murder (although he didn't have much remorse for the dead and dying) unless there was no other way to get what he wanted. He didn't even steal out right...he preferred to con people. He would sometimes come across as a wonderful savior of the people. He would even work well with a good aligned party because to him it wasn't simply good vs. evil, it was just about him obtaining power. The more powerful he got the more power he craved.
You could also be a LE fighter who is so law abiding/enforcing that he is an iron-fisted dictator who still isn't a murderer. There is more to being evil than simply killing people and doing utterly vile things. Try being subtly evil. You might just enjoy it.
