After 3 years...a new game!!! Suggestions welcome

Post by Edwin »

As i said in the title, after 3 years :speech: i want to start a new game that will bring my hero through BGII SoA and ToB.
The game will be played with the addition of various mods to make it more challenging
The mods will be:
Ascension
Banter Packs
Fix pack from Baldurdash
G3 anniversary
G3 Tweaks v15
Improved Horn of Valhalla
G3 Oversight
G3 Song and Silence
G3 SP collection
Unfinished Bisness
Ease of use
Tactics (only selected parts)
Solafeuin mod

I'd like to play with a chaotic good multiclass Fighter/thief in order to have whirlwind+assassination+ability to cast time stop with scrolls....:mischief:

I'd REALLY appreciate your opinion on which NPC to choose. I've read there are big challenges in the mods and i've played a lot of (sandard) games making the party always all by myself. This time, if you will reply, i will take the 5 more voted NPC to be my companions. It's a sort of..."You're the Child of Bhaal, but in order to fulfill your destiny, you must take this friends with you and bring them to glory!!!" :D :D :D

Thank you veeeeery much in advance for any suggestion!!!!
My new game will start early next week, so you'll have time until then for you most appreciated suggestions.

Here we go...by now it's:
HD 2
Cernd 1
Mazzy 1
Nalia 1
Valygar 1
Anomen 2
Keldorn 1
Jaheira 2
Edwin 1
Imoen 2
Minsc 1
(Sarevok) 1

The person who wrote the NPC Useage Guide at Sorcerers Place said the
The funnest game I've ever played was a party of Haer'Dalis, Cernd, Mazzy, Nalia, Valygar and my PC, a Fighter/Thief.
I doubt you'll find anyoune else who recommend this selection though as its hardly uber-powerful. (I played a variation that subbed Haer'Dalis for Anomen and found it rather fun) :D

***Beware the ToB spoiler below***

Keldorn Firecam (Dispel Magic @ twice the level, True Sight @ casting speed of 1, Holy Sword)
Anomen Delryn (personal story goes good with Keldorn)
Jaheira (full range of priest spells with Anomen)
Edwin Odesseiron (you're a fan of his, I take it?)
Yoshimo/Imoen/Sarevok (see ToB Spoiler below)

A couple priests, a couple wizards, 4/6ths of the party can bash (yes, Jaheira bashes, at least in my game she did), family intrigue, plot twists, romance... boo-yah.

In Chapter 2, use Yoshimo's spot to use other NPCs temporarily for their quests. Take him with you in Chapter 3. ;)

ToB Spoiler: In ToB, bashing is more important than spells, thus, Sarevok. End Spoiler.
Why is it that whenever I finally get around to playing a new game for the first time,
I feel like playing Baldur's Gate for the second time...

The Archer is a very useful kit to be using in your party, so I suggest downloading the Kivan mod from G3.

I'll give my opinion about the mod's and downloadable NPC's later; I don't have the time to write an indepth reply right now.

However, I will give you my choice of Bioware NPC's:
1 Dalis
2 Jaheira
3 Imoen
4 Minsc
5 Kelsey or Keto. As of yet, I have not used Kivan. He seems to be growing more and more in popularity, though. Also, don't worry about incompatability, I believe Domi made sure Kivan is quite bug-free.

She did, I've never experienced any problems playing him,

Few things to bear in mind though

* The mod has no ToB portion yet
* To make the most of his personal quest you need to either play a healing class or have Aerie/Cernd in your party (you may also require a free character slot ;) )

I really like the Fade mod (though she is a thief which you may not want seeing as you are playing one)

Saerileth (paladin) is also an interesting mod. She has quite a pronounced view of things :D

Again don't think that the ToB portion is complete, but if you're thinking of playing modded NPC's is it might be worth checking the following link

WOW!!!!!
This link really rocks!!!!!
I've downloaded Saerileth and Tsujathav. I also wanted to download the drow female (don't remember her name) but the link didn't worked...
Thank you Thank you Thank you Thank you Thank you veeeeeeeeeery much for the link. Everything that can bring new life to the game i love more is really really welcome.
I think i will only use one of the two characters, in order to be able to romance. They both seem really good...so your opinion is welcome here too....

There is also a "Crossmod Banter Pack" which adds banter between some of the modded NPCs

I have played the Tsujatha romance which is very good.
While I have not tried the romance angles myself, I have heard high words of praise for both Fade and Saerileth. I think I'd prefer Fade personally, but I'm kind of iffy on paladins ;)

I don't mean to get off topic but I also felt like trying Saerileth, but it's a rar file and apparently I can't open them or something... Any advice before fable tells me to start my own thread? :D

Right click on the file. On the menu that comes up, click on "Zip Genius," then select "extract here." Make sure you extract the mod into your main BG2 folder. Once the contents of the mod have been extracted you will need to run "setup"
The setup icon should have been dumped into your folder when you extracted ;)

DW you're a saint, don't ever change :D :D :D . Thanks a million, I was doing it differently and getting lost so, despite my earlier post, I never would've figured it out (guys hate asking for directions... :p ). Thanks again, it's working great now. :D :D

You're welcome

Out of the fully completed Mods my favourite is Yasraena, the drow female you coudln't download - it your still having problems it might be an idea to contact Sillara or Nethrin over at Yasraena's forum at Choseon of Mystra or if you like you can PM your email address and I can try and send the mod to you.

Dragon_Wench is as usual spot on: Fade, Tsujatha and Saerileth are all immensely popular and if you are planning to use any of them download the Crossmod Banter Pack from Gibberlings 3.

Can't really give you an opinion on Tsujatha as I've never played him, and I'm slightly biased as regards Saerileth as like Dragon_Wench I'm not big on paladins (and her age was always a bit problematic for me).

Remember to check the readme for whichever one you decide to play as there are romance requirements for both.
