I did not train at all the very first time I played the game. Even now, I try to keep training minimal.

Other self-imposed rules?
* I do not edit in items via the console unless I have screwed up and somehow lost something critical
* I do not usually kill NPCs except in self-defefense
* I usually only steal from the wealthy

Do not meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup.

No selling filled soulgems.
No selling potions you've made.
No theft except from the wealthy. (And books. I love the books.)
No cheesy use of magic--so no CE items with Drain Health, or hour-long flights over your opponents' heads.
To the Righteous belong the fruits of violent victory. The rest of us will have to settle for warm friends, warm lovers, and a wink from a quietly supportive universe.

Well, most of veterans had made the rules for themselves - such or another. As for no training - yes, it had been done now and then, it's not that hard. Initial version even didn't count the misc. skill increase into stats points if gained by teacher, so. for example, to get Endurance by Heavy or Medium armor (assuming they weren't among one's maj./min. skills) one actually had to put on such armor and find some creatures (mudcrabs often) to stand and to bear himself pinched :D
