Nether Staff

I have a nether staff and still have a penatly to use it. I have the 5 in Magic use, the strength, and a 5 in light arms. What am I missing?

5 in magic use? Do you mean 5 in 'magic weaponry'? If so then you should be good to go. How much is the penalty? D

5 in magic weaponry, str 24, light weapons 5, med weapons 3, pole 3 and the penalty is -2.

Ok I'm stumped. If you have or when you get some exp. points to spend save your game and try putting another point in light weapons and see if it helps. You can always then reload and try something else. I never noticed it but maybe the nether staff is mislabeled and is really a level 6 magic weapon.
Don't mean to insult you but maybe the penalty is due to something else you are carrying armor or bow maybe? Sorry for your problem. D

Its level 7 light weapon FYI. Thanks for your help ferncliff. It was a good idea to save it and try the points.

I bought a nether staff from mage in fargrove and mine was level 5 magic wep required. I put in 5 and alreday had 5 in light weps. I did not have a penalty at all.
