NWN career advice needed

Post by Avid Player »

I presently have a monk level 8 (lawful good) with recommended stats.
She wears a golden circlet and a periapt of wisdom +2, the stat increases went into dex and str. Feats chosen: blind-fight and circle kick.
The question is which prestige class to choose.
Any help, hints, tips and advice are very welcome.

You could always go for rogue.
The rogue's sneak attack combined with hide and move silently (if you have any ranks in that) is very good for a monk.

Or a fighter if you want your list of fighting oriented feats to increase.

i think he was thinking of prestige classes not ordinary ones. whenever i have played a monk i always just stuck to a pure monk as i found the prestige classes not really suitable for that particular character i have. you could try weapon master or something i guess, if you have the option, but pure monks are extremely powerful, even halfling ones like i had lol

Thanks all for the advice, got her up to level 10 now, pure monk and she kicks ass!!!. My paladin was killed several times trying to get Gulnan in chapter 1 and the monk nailed her with one flurry of blows :D :D

Presently i am halfway through chapter 2, only the orc caves and Charwood remain before moving on to Luskan.
Managed to get a amulet of health too.

Well monks are great, i have made quite a few in the past and i would have to say that the best one out there right now has to be the pale master monk.

Yes the whole 3 level in a spell caster is a bit of a hardship to deal with but that is easly done with taking something like a sorc or wizard. The fact that you do not really wear armour helps with arcane spell failure.

You get access to some pretty basic spells which might or might not be useful to you in later game but it will still allow you to use arcane scroll and wands which i know first hand came in real handy.

Bone Skin at lv 1 and every 2 lvs thereafter is amazing, with the wisdom and dex that you would have its a nice boost

Darkvision, Deathless vigor, Immunitys as well as summoning Zombie to do your bidding, or fodder in my case.

Plus you get spell slots ever 2 levels so you can have more of those crappy spells.

By the time i was done the first game i had just over 30AC, and could go toe to toe with Klauth with out having to go back to the temple to rest or anything of the sort. Tho healing pots came in handy.

You should give it a try sometime, its worth the work if you are willing to put it in. And common what doesnt look kooler then a half orc monk with one arm kicking the snot out of people.

Cheers

Some more options for monks...

Try this combination....

A Monk/Shadowdancer/Rogue: lvl 20/10/10 respectively

Benefits:

Hide in Plain Sight and Sneak Attack combined with the plain-fisted power of a monk.
The ability to summon a shadow that can distract from you(for more sneak attacks)
The ability to wear and use other magic items(Use Magic Device Skill). A monk wearing an Adventurer's Robe for example.
While naked AC might suffer some, your ability to avoid damage overall will increase.(Magical armors, items, and class abilities like Shadow Evade will help with this).

ETC ETC

Detriments: Takes away from Spell Resistance and Monk speed
Requires Dodge and Mobility skills

Note: You don't need to steal to use the Rogue class(since you're LG!) Though some might say that sneak attacks are not in tune with the LG class, when fighting evil, I believe it simply exists on the fringes of that alignment. After all, sneak attacks are legitimate(or Lawful) tactics to win a battle.

This is a bit outdated but I will continue anyways. I think a great prestige class for a monk is an assasin. Even though you say your person was good and if you don't mind starting again, assasin adds a lot. After you use knock down, the death attack can dish out damage. You maybe thinking that the rogue class can do the same thing with the sneak attack but the death attack can stun people which is nice after they get up from the knockdown. When they are stun, you can have more death attacks adding up to loads of damage. :) The couple of spells on the assasin are not so bad either.

But if you really are against starting over, rogue levels are nice with the sneak attacks.
