Spoilers:

Blackrazor is probably the best long sword in SoA, but you get it very late and you have to become evil to obtain it.
Personally I swear by Daystar, since there's so many Undead in the game.
The Equalizer is a good choice too, but a little harder to get since you need to find the various parts.

Daystar is indeed very good (and a good player can pick it up in early Chapter 2).

I usually buy the Blade of Roses, for non-undead purpose.

Vote for Daystar, Silver Blade close 2nd

Daystar's Sunlight ability should damage Kangaxx pretty severely (seem to remember that it did, but it's been a while now). The spell Mordenkainen's sword will also hit him. The Silver sword **spoiler** (you get the blade from Saemon and the hilt from an encounter with a Githyanki party) also has to be assembled but is a DEVASTATING weapon. ANY hit has a 25% chance of instantly killing the target. I've had that sword kill adamantite golems with one hit!?! Might work on Kangaxx the same way, but haven't tested that as he was destroyed before I put it together. But Daystar and the Silver Sword are my favorites.

Well, considering it is availible fairly early, I put the Blade of Roses up high. Daystar kicks butt.

The best longsword in SoA is Blackrazor for its proc (chance to drain level/steal life/gain strength from one sword), which you get about 20 minutes before the end of the game.

Daystar, barring the addition of any mods. It's actually reasonably placed, considering the challenges you face beforehand--besides, the AI is pretty dumb.

Exactly.

Of course, mods expand things greatly. The best with mods (well, the mods that are widely popular anyways) is probably the upgraded Daystar from Item Upgrade.

Other than that, there are +2 longswords widely available- Adjatha, Blade of Roses (which is actually +3), Dragonslayer, Flametongue (listed as +1, but IIRC works as +3 or 4 when determining what it can hit), Namarra, Ras, and the Sword of Balduran (with bonus merchants) are all available as early as chapter 2 (as is a stock longsword +2). If you have ToB, Anguravdal +4 is available while still in SoA and is pretty strong, and for that matter can hit Kangaxx (no specific spoilers on location, but there's only one new thing that ToB adds within SoA).

Also, note to Philos- The Silver Sword is a Two Handed Sword, not a Long Sword.

The Equalizer has to be the best weapon. The majority of enemies you face are evil therefore its effects are devastating. Daystar's abilities are good but only because of the ability to use the spell Sunray.

Also Equalizer's effects work on both swords when dual-wielding weapons.

Of my expirience Daystar +3 won't hit him at all (or at least very few times), and the swords Sunray abillity **possible spoiler** will hit him only when he's a lich. It will not work when he will 'reborn' as Demi-lich.. If you really want to make Kangaxx run, use Carsomyr +5, but on the other ´hand it's two handed sword so it might be not what you are looking for =)
But otherwise I must say that Daystar is one of most usefull swords in the game. I recomend it strongly ;)

Daystar was an excellent weapon, but I usually end up using it in the offhand or equipped but not used just to get the sunfire spell.

I've always like the Daystar, for some reason it works unbelievably well as a backstab weapon. I often compared it to the Sword of Backstabbing which is +3 but Daystar seemed to do more damage all round, especially against undead.

No, as Chosen One said, daystar won't hit Kangaxx. I didn't have Carsomyr when I encountered K so: (spoiler)
I used the Flame Sword, which as noted is considered +4 when determining what it can hit.

Daystar is groovy though: (another spoiler)
Get yourself negative plane protection, run into a nest of vampires and get them all to attack you, then fire daystar's Sunray. BOOM! Vampire marmite all over the walls.

I thought you couldn't backstab undead. Will try Daystar with my Kensai/Thief.

I always have Daystar on my inventory. Its mandatory.

I like Varscona (you can catch it later with a powerfull party of allies if you're into evil doing and into bloody fights) too, due to the fact that I used that through BG1 every time I havent soloed the game (then I'll use the backstabbing blade yadda yadda).

And I think weapons must roleplay so, regarding long swords, the Blade of Roses is excelent for a Bard, and for a huge, bloodthirsty fighter I'd use either Daystar (powerfull versus undead) and Equalizer, dual wielding.
Flesh to stone ain't permanent, it seems.

Obviously, the answer is Blackrazor as it's practically SoA. I mean, Level Drain+Speed+Heal+Strenght gives you quite an advantage, and it's 15% so it happens pretty often.

Otherwise, Daystar is a must-have. Reasons already given.

Blade of Roses +3 is quite usefull, both for buying items and it's a +3 that's relatively easy to get.

But to answer your question: Blackrazor. Though you won't be able to use it in SoA much. :]
