Swashbuckler

Post by BilboTheHobbit »

I nay be understanding why ye lasses like swashbucklers. They be puny warriors with thief skills, I be going for a fighter/thief instead, even when I be hating dual classing. Ye be choosing assassin instead, hide and curl up in the shadow and than a sissy make comes, ye be crawling up behind him and wham! 200 damage x7 backstab!
And then ye have the bounty hunter, ye set a few traps, walk and lure the stupid men into your set of traps and they be dead in the blink of an eye. But with the girlyman swashbuckler you do normal damage with backstab, that is pathetic when ye only get normal traps. So go fer the mighty assassin or bounty hunter. That be what I say.

The assassin and the bounty hunter's thieving skills suffer. _Greatly_. Further, Swashbucklers get +1 damage and -1 AC every 5 levels which adds up. Unlike other thieves they can get 3 slots in Dual Wield, and can specialize in melee weapons. Unlike fighter/thieves swashbucklers can reach levels over 20 in vanilla BG2. So basically what you get is a character who has full thieving skills, yet can tank alongside any fighter. I find that to be a fair trade for backstab, which I never use anyway.

But that's all beside the point. Don't be dissin' swashbucklers.

What's vanilla bg2 and my assassin is lvl 23, so he is higher than lvl 20.

Methinks they were referring to fighter thieves not being able to get up to level 20.
And hey, swashbucklers rule. My guy had the Equilizer in one hand and the Blade of Roses in the other, and HE KICKED ASS.

The Swashbuckler is the best thief kit for dualling to mage. A level 10 Swashbuckler does all thief works except scouting, the Staff of Magi qualifies him for that, too. And of course, the +3 AC bonus and the other fighting bonuses can be very useful for the Thief/Mage.
