Regarding Kreia-Katarr-influence

Post by Suicide Girl »

According to Dan Simpson's KotOR II walkthrough and influence guide, there is an infinite influence bug with Kreia, in the conversation about Katarr. I got to the point in the conversation where Kreia responds to my line regarding Visas' homeworld's destruction with "Ah, another exile.". Then I get to choose a response featuring [intelligence], and Kreia's response to that one is followed by another [intelligence] option. That pretty much wraps up the conversation, and Kreia sounds impressed by my [int] observations, leaving the promise of gaining influence, but I simply don't.

However, maybe it has something to do with (quote from walkthrough):
With a high INT you can hit Kreia up for a DSP and infinite +INF+. Follow the dialogue until: (take this path, even if you are Light Side, it's even more valuable to you as it's even harder to gain Influence while walking in the Light)

Dark Path > Because there is nothing to be gained by murdering her - yet.
> If she threatens any of us again, I will deal with her, I
promise you.
> Ties to her master, perhaps. And I intend to follow that bond
to its source when the opportunity presents itself.
> Atton said her planet was wiped out, that it was the only
colony of her people in this sector of the galaxy.
> [INT Check] Well, if her people all see through the Force,
then maybe someone wanted to blind them.
> [INT Check]... END

You can talk to Kreia about Visas' planet, and repeat the same answers over and over and over. Infinite Influence.
Does that mean I can only gain influence (single shot or infinite) if I took the DSP in my first conversation with Kreia about Visas? I have to admit I doubt that; the influence guide only specifies that you need a high enough INF for influence to be gained.

But I'm still not getting any influence with her, and I really really need it - I managed to get [influence: success] to every question except Did you know Revan?, and I've already gained influence twice since my last success (the conversation where she talks about the three Sith lords). I feel like I'm so close, and I really want to get it over with before I lose influence with her again, but why am I not gaining any influence here?

Any ideas/explanations?

If you hit an influence point, but no influence is given then it is usually because you are already at maximum influence with that NPC. In a party, however, it can be because the NPC is too far away (but that doesn't apply here).

"Did you know Revan?" requires the highest influence score of any of Kreia's post first planet dialogues. Not sure why it should be unavailable to you if you do have a high influence.

Also, most of the conversational influence and experience exploits only apply to the Xbox version. The PC version wasn't released for another couple of months, and these bugs seem to have been fixed.

As an aside, it is not necessary to take a DSP hit to get to that [Int] point for influence. Just being noncommital about what to do to Visas will still lead to the "Atton said her planet was wiped out..." sooner or later...
LucasArts in interview with GameSpy, September 2004
"We were hoping we could bring the Xbox platform into December but didn't want to make the formal announcement until we knew an earlier ship date would not compromise the quality of The Sith Lords," says Producer Mike Gallo.

Oh well. Maybe I already did the [int] thing (because I know I used 'Atton says'), but I'm just too stupid to remember. :o

Guess I'll just have to wait and see what happens next time Kreia gets an influence option.

I already encountered "no influence" before, when fixing the airspeeder on Nar Shaddaa. I let both Bao-Dur and Atton play around with it (strongly reminding me of KotOR's 'Anything you say, beautiful' conversation :D ), but no influence was gained. However, that probably proves that what you say about max influence is true, because I had them both on LS Mastery by then.

In any case, thank you for the info. :)
