"Multiplayer"ing, whats it all about?

Post by MageOfTheWood »

Im a little confused on what goes on in multiplayer things. Like there are different rooms so whats that about, there are like 100 different games but i can only join like 1/3rd of them. What does it do, what kind of campaign does it lead? Does it affect your single player campaign or your character? Can you level up in multiplayer and then go back with youre new character to yourte regular game? If someone could clue me in on some of these things and like what different kinds of multiplayer games there are, thatd be great cause Im at a loss...
Well if winning is an art,
then I believe it's drawn us apart.

Multiplayer in this game is very depending on which kind of game you join.

there are like 100 different games but i can only join like 1/3rd of them.

Some games requier passwords to join, often found at their website. This is to keep a marginal control over who joins the server and who doesn't.
I'd think that is why you can't join all listed servers.

What does it do, what kind of campaign does it lead?

Different from game to game and server to server.
Some create their own persitant world, others simply play the original game as multiplayer. Others have created small modules which are played as a PnP session and so on.

Does it affect your single player campaign or your character?

Depends. If you use that character in multiplayer and import him back into your single player - it could.
However, off the bat - no it shouldn't.

Can you level up in multiplayer and then go back with youre new character to yourte regular game?
Again it depends.
Many of the more serious servers run their own "character vault", so you can only use your characters created there, on that server. This is to prevent cheating by modifying your character. Others allow all characters to join.
However, common for them all is that you actually import the character into the game, and to play it anywhere else, you need to export it and then import it again.
It is never the excat same character you play, but a copy of the one you imported.
Just like if you start a new single player game, you can import another single player character into that new game.

NwN's largest force, was its adaptability towards multiplayer games. It is where you can find pure roleplaying games, L40 hack n' slash games, tournaments and what not.
