Hello. new User here.
I`ve just finished the original balder`s gate and now started on Icewind Dale + heart of winter. the party does fine at start getting past the avalanche and the mill (but I lost 2 members). With 4 members of the party left we try to exit to the East, but the game either freezes on screen - or crashes to the desktop with a black semi-screen (I can see part of the desktop), I then have to Ctrl-Alt Delete out..
I have tried loads of ways to fix this, changing resolution, adding the Patches in different orders (including the special UK Patch). I even just added that Trials of the Luremaster and tried the Override suggestion at the top of these threads, but still the same crash with this save.
The only thing I haven`t done is try a new game with a new party with all the Patches, I`ve simply been trying to start with the save that has 4 party members left.
Perhaps I should patch up and start a new game? But it`ll be real annoying if the game still crashes after all that.
Sorry for the long post, but I reckon the more detail you guys have, the easier it will be for someone to have a solution.
Thanks in advance.
Windows XP. SP2 uptodate.
Athlon 64, 3500+
1.5 gig ram.
Playing on lan.
going to Kuldahar then Crash. Please help.

Welcome to GB.
Hmm. I suppose if you've tried all those resolutions, you've also tried playing the game in Windowed Mode, if not maybe that could help?
Other that that, what graphics card are you using? I think that the newer Nvidia graphics card drivers aren't very compatible with older games. There was one particular driver version that has seemed to work well with Icewind Dale though. I think it was 56.72 (of course, if you do have an Nvidia driver and wish to try that version, ensure that it supports your card).
If you have a different kind of graphics card or one that is unsupported by the 56.72 version you could still try an older version of your graphics card drivers.
I hope that helps.

Check this thread out, it's about the problem of the screen freezing when returning to Easthave - maybe the possible solutions listed there could solve your problem too.
Usually it's the older driver that helps, though :-\

Up the IRONS!
Thnx for your reply. Yes, I tried windowed mode. I didn`t think to try one of the old drivers, though. I have a 6800GT 256meg. I`ll try it, I just hope it doesn`t play up with the 6800s functionality.
Good luck.
Make sure you try the drivers that do support the 6800 before you risk even older drivers. It's a pain trying to fix a system with messed up graphics card drivers.

Not happening.
Tried it all, including several different drivers. Still the same CTD (crash to desktop). I`ve spent everyday of my week off on this, but it just won`t happen, not with patches, drivers, resolutions and all the suggestions here.
Very strange, since I had absolutely no problems at all with Baldur`s gate (original). I`ll have to leave to leave Icewind and try Icewind2 or find Baldur`s gate 2 instead (hard to find).
