Timely Occurances and Strange Events

Post by dragon wench »

This weekend I will be heading off to see a friend in a nearby city. As is common when we get together, we'll likely end up enjoying an alcohol-infused brunch before heading off and braving the shops. (We both need to go clothes shopping and we both hate it, alcohol takes away the edge)

Anyway, preparing for the weekend brings to mind some of our past escapades.

One evening we decided it would be great fun to take a bottle of wine to the beach and observe the thunderstorm brewing over the Straight of Juan de Fuca in Port Angeles, WA....

Of course, neither of us remembered to bring a torch... And since that beach is not exactly well lit, there was not much illumination to see by as it became darker. Eventually, since the storm appeared to be getting *a lot* closer.. we decided it might be wise to head back.

As we were trying to make our way up the (dark) path, my friend exclaimed, "We certainly could use some light right about now!"

Less than 30 seconds later a bolt of lightening struck the ground several feet in front of us :speech:

I'm not suggesting this was any sort of supernatural event or anything like that. It was just one of those bizarre things that simply happen sometimes. I did, however, turn to my friend and say, "The next time you say that and I'm with you, could you please make sure there is *not* a lightening storm going on overhead; ending up as the evening's BBQ special isn't high on my list of things to do." :p

So, do you have any experiences where some sort of startling coincidence has occurred? :D

Once a lightining struck the statue of Christ in the shool park. There was a small park in the middle of my old school, with a statue in the center. It was raining a lot. When I looked behind to seek a friend, the statue blown up with a lignthing and a kid was hit by fragments while astonished with the noise and the light.

The statue kept broken for months, and the nuns were horrified.
Flesh to stone ain't permanent, it seems.

Do any of you read FATE magazine?

If you do, you should recall a small article about JOTs, acronym for:

Just One of those Things

I cant recall having any odd coincidences however...
As above, so below!

Well, there was the incident where my friend at the time clamed he had never broken a bone in his body, and two hours later broke his leg in several places. Does that count?

We used to start our racecar on the rural road by my grandmothers house. (it was a sprint car, which have only a direct drive and no starter, so we had to push start it) I was around 9, and we were behind the car in the jeep pushing it. I said something to the effect of "Can you imagine how bad it would be to hit a animal in the Sprint Car?"

Sure enough, half a minute later we hit a collie. :( :(

It was bad, I got assigned the task of cleaning Fur out of the coilover shocks. :(

I had a long of string of saying "This hasn't happened in a long time" and then it happening. Culminating in me having a wreck... That was kind of weird, and then the Chrismas of '04, it snowed Christmas Day here in South Texas, where it snows like once every 20 years or so. Coincedences...

I've had some startling things occur - some coincedences, others just startling.

A very startling thing occurred as I was driving down a backwoods farm road on a cool Tennessee night. I had both the driver's and passenger's windows open to let the fresh air in, and was enjoying how the moonlight played across a gauzy blanket of low-lying fog up ahead when the universe was shattered by an owl hurtling in through the passenger side front window.

Inside of the car, the bird erupted in a flurry of large, powerful wings and frenzied screeching. I somehow managed to pull over on the non-existent shoulder of the road and bail out of the vehicle in one seamless operation, throwing the emergency brake as I bailed and meeting the wet grass of a farmer's field face-first. I turned to look at what sort of calamity had befallen me while adrenaline was ripping through my bloodstream, and watched a very large horned owl zoom out of the open passenger window and sail off into the darkness of the hardwood forest beyond. I started laughing maniacally, and hoped like hell that the bird didn't poop all over my back seat in a panic... (turns out it didn't, but it did leave some downy feathers and a very nice prize behind: a flight feather  )

A similar story: a friend of mine worked on a coal-burning locomotive for a few years. One day he was feeding the furnace when an idiotic vulture came zooming into the compartment from the great blue beyond. Though he was lucky enough to be in a larger space than I had during my owl encounter, he was unfortunate enough to encounter a buzzard. The confused buzzard began spewing vomit prodigiously all around the compartment as it tried to escape by flapping its tremendous wings. My friend gave it some assistance with his shovel, unceremoniously tossing it out the open door and commencing to be very sick himself.

Spooky events from a person with little to surprise with.

I've had one or two that were beyond explaining.

1) I'm hiking one day in late 2003 (IIRC, around November), which was lightly snowy. So, I suddenly decide to make this wish to some natural force that winter would last long and be very cold and snowy. Suddenly, the wind picks up just as I end my wish and the snow becomes a slight bit harder. That winter was the heaviest for Connecticut in recent years and lasted well until late March. :speech: Still, driving through that stuff is not difficult, and to this day I've never missed a day of work or been late due to road conditions.

No wonder people think I'm really special in some way.

2) Once or twice at work, I've been helping to unload trucks on the grocery side there at Wal-Mart. The bay door doesn't seem to want to stay up some times when we open it up. Anyways, I get this cooky idea (especially if attempts to push it back up don't work) where I pretend to command it to stay up (sort-of like a wizard or some-such). A good amount of the times that works. :speech:

Well, something happened to me today. But it may just have happened because I'm clumsy. :p

I was going to a&b sound, and I was telling my brother how all my friends had slipped on the ice yesterday, and as soon as the words wedre out of my mouth, I slipped on the ice.

Galuf the Hobbits story reminded me of one.

We were hiking in New Mexico, We had been going UP all day, and a HUGE mountain loomed ahead of us. It was probably around 5;30, and we were all tired and hungry. Bad thing was, we couldnt find a place to camp!!!!!! Eventually, I heard one of are members shout "Oh My God!" and point to the top of a tree. What I saw truly amazed me. In the top of the tree was a bonified cross. A perfect one. And below it, was our campsite, with water, and everything we needed. It was freaky.

I should note that we got stalked by a Cougar that night. :p Call this Gods practical joke.

I have pictures somewhere, and when I find them, Ill post them. :)
