Getting Elminster in your group?
Getting Elminster in your group?
Okay, a friend of mine at school (guy with too much free time, I think) claims that he was able to get the legendary Elminster into his group. When I asked how, he said that his party was just wandering around the world map when they ran into the great mage. Anyone else ever have this kind of fortune?
I'd love to get Elminster into my group. Level 29 mage, who can memorize level 9 spells (he did write them, didn't he? Haven't read any D&D books before...). Let's see Irenicus try this boy on for size. Mwa hahahahahaha...
Anyway, anyone ever do this? Oh yeah, and my friend didn't use any hacks or the like, either, he says.

I played the game for 2 times and wandering around a lot too but never have this chance. As far as i know Elminster only show up to give you and Jaheira his blessing and give u the Harper Pin.
I played for the 3rd times now (After meddling with RA2 and Mech4) And still got no Elminster sign, FYI i always wander around than completing the whole story now looking for new things.
i think you should recheck with your friend by look at his game personally as if this thing happen all our buddies here will post up way before you do. And i think some of us already played the game for lots of time too and never encounter this matter.
Clarification Folks ?

You CAN have anyone in our group if you use the CRLT Q cheat key.elmister show up in a diferent name but using the cheat key is bad because it can screw up the story line.

Actually, Elminster is a 44th level mage, as well as being a fairly well accomplished thief, and priest of Mystra.

Have you read the Ed Greenwood books, Elminster: the making of a mage, and
Elminster in Myth Drannor? These books revealed a great deal about the young Elminster which I had no idea about... Interesting history, for sure!

I think the one I read was Elminster: The Making of a Mage. Or was it the Temptation of Elminster? Or both? I can't remember since I was trying to order both at the library.

I haven't read Temptation of El yet, but it was recommended to me by a friend. Have you heard of the 7 sisters book? I haven't read it yet either,(rec. by the same friend) but it is a collection of 7 short stories, about 7 daughters of Mystra who are scattered across Faehrun. One is a drow, I'm not sure about the rest. As soon as I finish rereading the Asimov Foundation series I'll hit those next.

Elminster is a figure of the forgotten realms and was first introduced in the rulebook with only small information when TSR created that world.
Many people wrote books and modules (and computer games) in which elminster is mentioned or play a role. And there are many different stories, a lot of information should be treated as rumors.
One example is his age, it varies up to a maximum of more than 2000 (two thousand) years.
Mage, mage/thief, sage, chronist with demigod status, a lot of interpretions can be found depending on the source you look.
That's Elminster, a legend nobody knows for sure what is the truth.

Ug...I hardly have time anymore to play computer, read, AND keep up with my homework. I think I've heard of the book, but never read it. I prefer whole novels, or even better, trilogies. The next trilogy on my list is the first one of Drizzt. I've only read the last Drizzt trilogy so far.

Yes, I would agree... alot of them seem to be written at a young teen level. There are a few good ones amongst all the drivel, however. I shouldn't complain though, I was about 11 or 12 when I started reading fantasy books and playing pnp AD&D... Somethings got to keep the genre alive!
... Regarding Elric, there is a fairly decent comic book adaptation of the original 6 books... Have you read the short story compilation called "Tales of the white wolf"... a couple by Moorcock, and others by folks like Gary Gygax & Neil Gaiman. Good stuff.
