How much Sola do you need for Eclipse? (Sola mod spoiler)

I want to do the Eclipse party challenge, but I don't want that good-for-nothing drow to hang around me. So, is it possible to get the Eclipse battle by just picking him up in ToB for a while, or must I have him hanging around the party the whole time to get it?
