i got a problem and was wondering if anyone else had the same one?
I just finished jans quest and it seems that somewhere in the middle of it i lost the ability to rest or save, it says unable to rest at the is time!!
i guess i could go back to a save prior to this happening but i have done a significant amount of work since.

Yeah I had this problem too.
If you want to rest here is what you do: go to any inn and have a few drinks (2 or 3 should do it). After that you should be able to rent a room and rest. As far as the saving problem goes I think you can save the game after you have rested.

This is a bizarre problem that made the first run of this game very confusing and un-fun as I thought that I couldn't rest until I finished an errand. I couldn't rest anywhere.
The second and third time around I just waited a couple seconds and re-tried resting (sometimes several times) or tried moving my party it always worked eventually.

I had the same problem after emerging from the Underdark in chapter 6. The problem was caused by the Cursed Berserking Sword which I had put in my Bag of Holding. After putting it back in my inventory and installing the patch (which fixes the problem with this sword) I could save as usual.

I have experienced that problem too. It might happen when hostile spells have not expired.
After I came out of the Rift Dungeon and was going back to mop up the rest of the Unseeing Eye folks a Mephit (Mist maybe?) attacked and cast a spell (stinking cloud?) at me I killed him and went on I could not save until after the spell had run its course (I assume) even though I had moved out of the area. I also had that problem once in BG I, but it was because I ran out of space on my HDD![Image](http://www.gamebanshee.com/ubb/smile.gif)

Area Effect Duration Spells (Stinking Cloud, Cloudkill, etc...) must have run their time before the game gives you the option to save or rest. The only alternative is to leave that map, and move onto another one, which doesn't have such spell effects active at that moment. Note that this doesn't count for Duration Spells that are on your party members like Bless or Greater Malison.
I once had such a bug as well. I had gone to the Umar Hills, where I talked to the merchant who has something to do with the Leather Armor of Human Skin. As soon as I bought the book, I was kicked into a dialog with the guy, which was consequently concluded, with me free to go ... but the game had forgotten to clear the flag that someone was shopping, so I couldn't save, couldn't rest, couldn't leave the area. After multiple tries I was able to make a transition to another screen anyway (apparently that check came before checking that flag), and it resolved once I talked with that character to another merchant.
But annoying nonetheless.
