Workbench and upgrades questions

Post by SpazHairlip »

I'm sure this might have been discussed but I have found nothing using search.

How do you use this stuff? I knew how to do it in KotOR 1 cause it was easy, but in this one you have components and skills and each item needs a different skill. Since you really can't have all your skills high enough to make everything that is the best for upgrades, how do you do it? Can other characters make stuff for you? Do you just do without? Can anyone give me some tips or a tutorial or walk through about what they did? I haven't been able to find one online.

Thanks

on the ebon hawk only you can make stuff, but there are loads of workbenches and lab stations throughout the game that anyone can use. you get components by breaking down items and if you meet the requirements you can then make a new item. if you look at the main gamebanshee kotor2 page there is a link about crafting items that you might find helpful

You can use the bench to make/break upgrages and use these upgrades on weapons, armour etc.

Any character can use an upgrade to upgrade something else.

A character must have a certain skill above a certain level to make a certain upgrade.

The number of components ganed during breakdown is determined by the exile's repair skill...

Hope this helps... :D

You can actually have all your skills high enough by the end game. Remember, unlike KoToR, your INT modifier affects not only the number of skill points you get at the beginning, but also the number you get assigned at each level up . I have had characters who get 6 points per level up. here are my personanl preferences, YMMV.

1) I always go with a starting INT of 16, and put my Stats upgrades at levels 4 and 8 into INT as well, so be the time I reach level 8 my INT is 18. This gives me plenty of points to spend at each level.

2) I only put one point into Stealth. There's no place in the game when you need it, and AFAIK the only item you can create using it is a sound-dampening overlay. Which personally I never use, finding there are much better overlays.

3) I don't put a whole lot into treat injury in the early part if the game; it's mostly only used to make medpacs and stims, and there are Jedi powers which substitute for those, meaning that I can keep my precious components for more useful upgrades.

4) Armour is a good source of componants, especially the more valuable kinds. And there's really no use for it. Atton, Mira, Handmaiden, Disciple and Bao-Dur I always make into Jedi, and thus they can't wear armour cos it stops them using the Force. (even if you keep Bao-Dur unjedified for his excelent technical abilities, he still can't wear it), Same goes for Kreia and Visas. And of the non-Jedi characters, none can wear armour!

5) Make good use of those lovely Feats which turn skills into costing only 1 point! You might want to choose a different 'class' at level 15, which can get you some cross class skills for free (save up points for this)

6) My priority, after some experimentation, for Skill points goeas as follows:
First: Demolitions and Security. I always keep these as high as my level will allow, because they provide XP. In addition, bashing containers smashes stuff, and thus loses you gear, and picking up ratehr than disabling mines gives you something to break down for components
Second: Repair. The higher you push this, the more components you get when you break stuff down, plus you need it to get your natty WIS upgrade from T3
Third: Up to a point, I choose next Persuade and Awareness, because they make useful conversation optione appear. I don't usually take Pers above 12 or Awareness above 16 (which you need to get INF with Mira)

7) Finally, rember to save some points and keep one skill really low, so you can impress Kreia when she asks you to 'work on your weakes skill'. Bear in mind you get a free point in it, so choose something useful...

OK, that's my strategy, anyway...

Yes, other party PCs can use the labs and workbenches for you, applying their own stats to the results. This is a good idea, as it allows you to focus individual skills in different NPCs to get higher scores.

Like demonstrated above you can have an intellegent character that can make most stuff you need. Another way to do it if your not intrested in having high INT, for example, if you are playing a Guardian is to get some +Repair skill equipment that you boost yourself up with before breaking down stuff into parts. Then you can use T3-M4 to make the most stuff you want, just place droid uppgrades on him that gives +skills and bost he's INT. as soon as he gets a level, also give him the feats 'Caution' and 'Gear Head' for getting the most out of him, you wont proberly anyway use him in combat, so him losing he's combat abilities wont matter that much.

Might be some spelling errors here... but i don't have time to check that up now.
