My DLCE Problems--Need Solutions Please...

Post by Evenstar »

I'm growing disappointed with this "fixed up" version.
1. Repair and Identify are ridiculous. They work but I can only repair or identify one or two items at a time and Repair only repairs one or two points too. And then I have to wait to long a period inbetween before I can repeat. End result on two occasions now is my character is nude and I'm not finding or identifying useful armor to replace.

Interestingly one can fight and survive pretty well in the nude! :p

2. The Less Monsters and Easy Mode, if it means anything at all, means I am glad I'm not playing Normal! I just run past the thieves in the Slum area of Fargrove.

3. I think the ghost in Custard Mansion is Esmeralda? Anyway, I'm getting tired of dying. I need serious help or a serious Trainer for version 1.5 CE--PLEASE. I've tried the tips in the walkthrough here on this battle but I'm replaying this one way way to many times now. It is time to move on one way or another. Do I just skip finishing this quest? Can I come back to it later on once I've greatly honed my ghost fighting skills? When I got this quest it sounded like I had one shot at it. Anyway, if I can finish this up then I'll only have to run through those respawning thieves two more times. Do you suppose once I have joined the Thieves Guild they will leave me alone?

Progress in this game is very slow but so far has been very interesting. Some of the battles have been a lot of fun. I even took on the mimics in melee and that is no doubt what wasted my armor. I just need to make things a little easier in certain battles with a Trainer (for CE v 1.5) and for certain game features that don't work right like Identify and Repair.

I hope somebody might share something on how to deal decidedly with Esmeralda?

Thank you.

1. For what it's worth, you don't have to ID something to use it. You just won't know that stats or exactly why you're receiving a penalty, if any. Also, it won't affect what the item sells for. However, they do need to polish these two features in the next patch.
2. Maybe you're too low a level? Some folks level up a bit in the first forest before entering the sewers. Just a thought.
3. I've always had luck just standing beneath her and overhead chopping away. She doesn't seem to know what to do and just sits there and dies. Of course, I haven't tried her in the CE yet.

Good luck!

You talked about running past the torrent of thieves in the Slums. Does that mean you've skipped the vampire quest as well? It probably wouldn't hurt to stand around and gain some extra experience. You don't have to do Custard Mansion right away, but since it's required to advance in the Guild of Mystery, you probably shouldn't wait on it too long.

Another thing: You can get your equipment repaired in almost every shop. You shouldn't be fighting nude. With (better) equipment, you might have a much easier time with Esmerelda.

Finally, it might be a good idea to save your game, rush in to attack Esmerelda, and then rush out, and, if everything went well, save your game again and repeat. Then eventually you should defeat her. Spells are the best way to damage her.

Just about exactly how many more battles like Esperalda's are there remaining in the game? Will one's level make a HUGE difference and is it possible I am a little unprepared for Custard Mansion while I might be overprepared for other parts of the game later on? Is this difficulty I am having nothing compared to other battles coming up? Since I haven't even left Fargrove yet I hardly feel like I have gotten started in the game.

I've picked up unidentified armor before and used it. As long as I don't see a penalty it seems okay. And so far very few RPGs actually let you find cursed armor that you can't remove--that would be fun in this game

I've played everything up to this point. I'm ready to move out of Fargrove and have finished EVERYTHING else in Custard Manor. I thought the Vampire was part of Custard Mansion but maybe not. When I get out of here I hope the arms dealer has a nice set of armor as I'm starting to feel a little chilly. :)

Will the hord of thieves ever go away?

I'm using the built in "pause action but not time" cheat to charge up my fireball spellbook. Two or three more times with TV viewing inbetween while I wait should take care of it.

I don't know where the Vampire is. When I entered the Slums I more/less took a straight path to the Curio Shop and then to Custard Mansion. If I have to explore all parts of the Slum to find the Vampire I will but all the thieves don't make that to much fun or logical--but wait, why did I use that word?

It sounds like to me you forgot to set Spawing Monsters (top left of Options Menu ) to LESS Spawing.
Sadly Spawning is apart of this game and I wish the Devs would stop jerking us around and allow us to turn it OFF, not Down.

Most monster will tear you an new on without armor on are you Nutz, go BUY some armor, I cant believe you are trying Custard mansion without armor. :p

As mentioned Spells are very effective agaist her, I usually attack her till she gets Knocked up/Stuck on a wall out of Melee range and blast her with a Fireball or something.
Trust me, most of the names I have been called you can't translate in any language...they're not even real words as much as a succession of violent images.

Nothing that a few hours with a lot of patience didn't fix. Esmeralda's ghost is "dead".

Just checked the Options for the 3rd time and they are on Easy and Less.

Next time I am about ready to loose armor I think I will take it off and try fighting nude again. ROTFLMAO. :D Seriously, I fought Esmeralda with only a shield and boots and the shield and boots were replaced once during the battles. I think that the mimics were what ruined my armor more then anything though.

Now to get out of here, recover, and find that Vampire!

I'll still use a Trainer for 1.5 when one comes along--if nothing else for Inspect and Repair and to cut 3 hour battles down to an hour. :(

"Esmeralda's ghost is "dead""
Gratz :)

What is it you want from a Trainer, there are many options?
You dont really need god mode, just give yourself tons of money and buy potions or give your self tons of exp with a Hex editor.

Ahh I just thought of something, so far all versions would not Minimise to Desktop and then return to the Game.
You could actually hit ALT-TAB and get to Desktop but not return to the Game, preventing using external trainers.

So did they fix it in CE version, can you hit ALT-TAB then return to the game?
That would be almost worth the $40, at least to me.

I mentioned patience but I really don't have enough of that for an epic tale that is going to take a long long time. I hate battles that one can spend three hours or more resolving--including time to recover spells, etc. inbetween. When I talk about God mode I'm talking about using it sparingly and turning it off as soon as the deed is done. Somewhere up ahead there is a jumping sequence in the game. If I spend three hours getting through it I will be looking for a way to fly my character across--really. I can never understand the logic of why _you_ want me to bash my head against my wall in my game. It is true that my frustrations of yesterday have been tempered by finally killing Esmeralda and by employing what I learned from that experience to killing the Vampire. Maybe I don't need a Trainer at all now--that would be sooo nice. I don't like cheating.

Can't they fix the Alt-Tab problem in a "modified" exec? I notice that just like DL, DLCE has a key code that is not used (yet) and doesn't require any CD in the drive--interesting what they are up too?

Spawning...

Is it possible in DLCE that the rate of spawning in general might be based on your level of experience and that if it is low there is a lot of spawning to help you bring up your experience for a given area? If your level of experience is high enough for an area then spawning becomes much less frequent? That would be cool--no?

I notice with the mob of thieves that they tended to stay stuck together and rather then the whole lot of them charging my character they would actually get stuck at certain locations. When I had to get past a mob I would run around them and/or jump over them and get through. Usually some follow you and some show up on their own but that number could be handled with melee and a couple health potions that they usually drop to reimburse my stock. Dodging around a corner is important too as a half-dozen thieves throwing knives at you even though they might not be following you past some point can be dangerous to your health in short order.

I think the most important thing in a battle that I learned from Esmeralda and the Vampire was that you have to know how you can gauge that you are making progress toward winning the battle. If you just keep dying and you don't understand what is going on or how to effectively fight something then you are lost. Once I saw that these tough baddies were taking damage and how I could restore whatever I needed restoring and save the game then the frustration gets a whole lot less and the enjoyment increases.

The CD Code is used for Multi-Player games.

I did learn here on the forums that Monsters health is related to your vitality.
So if you keep your Vitality low (I left mine at the orginal statring level of 30) Monsters will be easier to kill.
I tested it an it does work, afaik.
