Magic class help

Post by Katomerellin »

Hey all. I'v been wondering if anyoen could help me a bit witha good magic user char. So far I'v only played a fighter but I wanna try a magic user. So I was wondering whats a good Magic character? Preferably using light armor. What classes should I go for? Start with Mage or Adept? Any help or ideas are welcome :D

Start with Mage, that's for sure. They get to use offensive spells early. You have to wait to get the best Celestial offensive skill Lightning. Other than that, all the skill trees are powerful. Why don't you choose a pair, Arcane and Nether or Celestial and Rune, or if you want just one of the four and let us know. Then people can give specific feedback. Just know that Arcane is the only viable form really early in the game. You could use more than 2 types by the way but that will cost you in the long run. Gotta run.

You can still start out as a fighter which makes getting through the sewers a lot easier than switch to a mage. After you become a mage than you can get a promotion to either sorcerer or battlemage and finally to wizard or warlock.
the wizard is your traditional wizard character whereas the warlock is a mage-fighter type of character.

I did mage, adept, paladin, can't remember and wizard

the character is very easy to play. I am have magic level weaponry and you get the sceptre of storms from completing one of the quests and even though it is a level 5 weapon (I had magic weaponry up to 10) it did some significant damage during melee sometime taking up to 40 pts per swipe. I also used the sceptre of shadows or whatever nausolem dropped in the shadow ruins and that is cool because is has both a melee and ranged attack without changing the weapon. this is true for the sceptre of storms its just the shadow sceptre is a higher level weapon. As for the spells as I upped arcane (15) celestial(10) Nether (10) and Rune (8) I am finding the low level magic like shrieking star and magic missle excellent to you on the riff raff you encounter ie spiders, snakes, scorpions, even goblin mages, wolves. My favorite spells are the fireball, blast nova, fire nova and ice nova, if they don't clear out the foes it knocks them back a bunch and its easy to melee them from there. I also like the divine intervention crystal, first its renewable and secondly it summons a figher(angel). I have a bunch of nether summons and they work ok. Unfortunately, I did not get the summon deathlord book from the tomb of souls so I don't know how that would work but its probably the best summon magic. Probably more than you wanted to know, hope it helps.
