Best Classes

Post by GrimReaper »

What is everyone's favorite class in the game? My personal favorites are kensai/mage, sorcerer, and swashbuckler, in that order. Anyone elses thoughts?

I preferred a tried and true multiclass half-elven Fighter/Mage/Thief

Fighter class for decent attack rolls.
Weapon specialist in bow, + a good dexterity bonus = enemy pincushion creator !!
A fireball or two just to warm things up now and again ..

Archers are pretty cool, especially at high levels against their "sworn enemy".

Assassins and all other thief classes are a blast to play. Gotta love backstab.

One of my favorite combos- Cleric of Helm dualled to a mage. I love the true seeing with the seeking sword. Add to that Tensers Trans., Draw upon holy might, Rightoeus Magic, fire shield, blade barrier, etc, and you have one powergamers dream, if only for one battle. Awesome to behold.

I've always liked multi-classed gnomes. Am currently playing a warrior/illussionist. Not as good as a kensai/mage but way cooler. Also, I'm in to bards. Every party should have one. Finally, I must say that my avenger was very nice. Absolutely the best druid IMO.

I must say, for druids, and I know I'm in a minority here, I like the totemic druids. I don't use shapechange (hardly ever), so the extra summoning is only a benefit.

I haven't gotten around to playing a druid yet, so could someone tell me what's so great about an avenger druid? (I can see the advantages of a totemic tho.)

My favorite classes are, in no particular order: conjurer (yorring, but with robe of vecna and that amulet from aran, he is a death machine), blade (strength equipment and dual wielding two long swords, plus the amulet from aran), and a bounty hunter (traps are excellent!!!)

@Watto44- I don't think the armor restrictions on an Avenger druid are that bad. However, the -2 to both STR and CON scores are really tough for me to swallow. At higher levels, even their cool the shapechange abilities just don't seem to offset this. Just my opinion.

Sorcerer, cause he can cast spells more often then the average mage, and Assassin because of his high backstab multiplier...

I agree with rapier wholeheartedly. If you choose sorcerors, though, make sure you are experienced with playing mages, so you know which spells you want.

About the avenger: The creatures you can shapeshift into are better than the normal ones. Especially the Sword Spider with his AC of -3 and 5 poisonous attacks per round is a favourite of mine. Avengers can wear Ankheg Plate and Red Dragon Scale, no matter what their kit info tells you. They have a few wizard spells added to their cleric spells. I used the higher level version of Cromatic Orb (instant death) quite often. The penalty to CON is unimportant since druids only get max + 2 HP anyway.

My favorite is a dual classed fighter/thief. Lockpicking, trap detection, Massive backstabbs. Can tank because of lots of HP's. They are good in a group and good solo.

Problem with Avengers- at high levels, a sword spider will get *crushed* by just about anything you come accross at that point.

The armor isn't a problem. Lots of options.

With the rolls, since you can put anything anywhere in character creation, the -2 to Con isn't a big issue, it's the fact that you get 4 less points to work with than any other kit. (-2 to STR and -2 to CON)

I do like the added mage spells.

Avenger continued: The Sword Spiders do not get crushed that easily. You still got plenty of HP (depending on your level, of course), it's not like you're a normal Sword Spider or anything. Also, I would never recommend any druid as a front fighter. Normally, I use the Sword Spider to creep up behind ennemy mages while my fighters are occupied elsewhere. The many attacks soon takes away Stone Skins and Mirror Images. The poison disrups new spells.

OK, so if you should roll an 18 on both STR and CON, these will be cut down to 16 each. On the other hand, should you roll a 3 on CHA, this will be augmented to 15. The gain you can make on CHA well compensates for the losses you can make on STR and CON. Of course, compared to the other druid kits, this is a disadvantage. Still, I find it quite easy to get a good roll when trying for any druid.
