CTD on changing locations, error 250 & pointer bug

Post by Celacena »

I am having a problem in that I want to go to certain parts of the city and after the auto-save, the area part-loads then crashes to desk-top.

I also find that sometimes, my mouse pointer gets frozen/disappears and I must go to desktop and back to restore control - I think the cursor is there, but hidden in the meantime.

also - umber hulks seem to crash the game - error 250.

downloads?

I installed ToB and patch as well as clearing the cache.

I have come to the conclusion that poor installs are to blame - there were 'cab doesn't match' errors which I dealt with using 'retry' or sometimes 'ignore' - so what perhaps I need is some kind of install that fixes any data that is corrupted or missing. if my disks are not very good (they were legit BTW) is there a download I could use to fix it?

I also lost my autosave yesterday when the game crashed - which was annoying as I had played an hour or so since the last conscious save - including defeating the Twisted Rune!

are there tools out there to fix the problem?

Yes most certainly. Corrupted data. Cleaning the disks, copying them all to the harddrive, then installing from there could also help surprisingly. Or try to read them on another CD drive, different drives have different success on recovering broken data.

Downloading should be hard, as it is classified as warez then. However, nothing stops anyone from posting the names of corrupted files in question here, and if they are not big im sure some kind of solution could be found.

.cab files are rather big tho

btw, if you are playing unpatched, ( i assume so ) w/o Baldurdash that is, then the Staff of the Magi doesnt give all the boni it displays. :)

thanx

I will consider cleaning and re-installing from another drive - I have 3 it could read the disks from, so one may be OK. keeping a note of the iffy files shouldn't be too bad.

it is odd - because I have been to each of the locations day and night and I think I have had umber hulks on-screen without a crash - at first I thought it was mind-flayers but it turned out not.

I had better baldurdash if the staff isn't doing the biz - actually somebody got drained even wearing the immunity to drain necklace of power.

Drained as in by the mindflayers? I dont think it protects from the intelect drain but i know it protects from a vampires level drain

sorry - butterfly mind

I changed subject - I thought the crashes were due to mind-flayers, which they weren't and (disjunctive) a character got drained whilst apparently wearing an item that prevented it. if some items do not do what they should then I need a patch.
