Cassidy or Marcus

Post by joe05 »

Guys - I've read some NPC info on various walks/sites.
Some like Cassidy; some Brain-Bot(?); some Marcus.

Do you guys have a preference.
I can only use 1 NPC.

Right now, I'm using Casidy with the Pancor Jackhammer(?) shotgun.

Well, Marcus is good with big guns and is capable of dealing enormous amonts of damage if you give him a Bozar (but try not to get in between him and the enemy :D ) and has lots of HP, but he can't wear any armor...

Cassidy, on the other hand, is a great fighter with a Gauss rifle and the Power armor, so IMO Cassidy is a better option for now...

There is also a third option (and probably the best one), you can take the "Magnetic Personality" perk to add an extra follower slot ;)

Marcus gets killed really easily in the late game, although he kills just as easy. That would seem to balance things off, but it doesn't because he kills YOU easy as well. You could give him a Turbo Plasma Rifle / Pulse Rifle and make your life easier, but then it wouldn't compare to Cassidy using a Gauss Rifle and Power Armor, so unless you're willing to give marcus a Bozar or Vindicator Minigun and be ready to reload every time he bursts then choose Cassidy (Marcus also has the annoying tendency to switch to fists even if told not to and charge the enemy who are using miniguns... dead Marcus). Skynet is just so damn slow.

Mr Pastorius & Snc - thanks for the info.
I have been stealing 2mm EC ammo for that Gauss rifle from Buster (?) in NCR.
Since he sells the ammo, I'm hoping he will eventually put the Gauss rifle in his inventory.
I will have to find another Advanced Power Armor for Cassidy.

Yes, I noticed that tend of getting killed by my own NPC's in F1.
I had 3, then went down to 2, yet still took too much damage from "getting in their way".
So, in F2, I decided to just use one.

I'll go hunting for Advanced Power Armor.
Maybe spend a night(...5+hrs) hitting towns I haven't visited yet.
That's how I got lucky with my current gear :-)

I'm in New Reno now.
I always check out the wastelands around every town = seems SW of New Reno has some good battles with lots of xp
Maybe this is F2's version of "deathclaw spawn" area in F1 ?
I'm always looking for a good killing/xp area to level up.
Plus, I just run to NCR and steal ammo from Buster.

Should have upped my steal in F1 = would have saved me from running around picking up/selling guns for cash.

Thanks for your help.

Unfortunately, there is only one adv power armor in the game (you'll find a mk2 version on the enclave oil rig at the end of the game), so you'll have to find Cassidy a regular pwr armor. There are several of those on various locations, but your best shot should probably be the san francisco BoS building (if you have the adv pwr armor, you have probably finished the vertibird blueprints quest and have access to all BoS stations in F2) :)

Mr Pastorius - thank you; again.
Well, I guess I go look for the Power Armor in SF.
Not sure if I did the Vertibird quest ... I just fornd my armor by accident ... think it was in Navarro after killing a gas station attendant = going down a secret ladder in his station ... I could be wrong

I also will try to add Marcus.
I should level up soon, add that perk and see if Marcus will kill me or Cassidy :-)

Thanks = you saved me alot of aimlessly running around
I hope I get in that BoS building.
Most of my early map searching was just hitting every city = I never did much questing or talking to people

Although I have them both in my party right now, I prefer Cassidy over Marcus because he's always safe with whatever weapon he's using, he also get criticals from time to time and you dont have to worry about being hit by hist burts unlike marcus where you have to spend extra APs just to get out of his line of fire. In the earlier stages of the game you can arm Cassidy with a scoped hunting rifle or a FN-FAL.

Regular (white) power armors can be found in San Francisco, Military Base, Navaro and maybe Oil Rig. You can take your regular power armors to scientist in Hubologist's base and he will upgrade it to advanced for 10.000$ :) . But you can rob him then. You can find Power Armor MK2 only in Navarro and oil rig as much as i know.

I like Cassidy, he listens to me. Marcus although good and well intented doesn't listen to me, giving him a bozar or any automated weapon is a complete waste of money and time.

The hubogolist can turn it into a hardened power armor, giving it a leg up on most of the defense checks and such, but he cant turn it into a power armor mkII
Equalization is good.

my choice is Cassidy alongside with Goris.

Cassidy can put on armour (now he's got Adv Power Armour  ), able to use Gauss rifle ( Death's tool ), by putting on the A.P.A. his max. carrying is increased to 200 and some (and as for a thief's companion that is crucial :P )

I take neither. Cassidy's too weak (even without that damn stat reset bug) and Marcus is too slow. Since I have an advanced powerfist and a souped up gauss pistol, I get into the thick of it really quickly. It works at first, having teammates.

But in later levels, Cassidy just gets his ass reduced to a pile of red goop with two, maybe three shots. And Marcus...either he shoots me in the back with a critical with the burst mode, or when not in burst mode, runs around trying to punch him with his slow but steady (not to mention completely irregular) pace.

Once you get gauss weaponry and a nice set of armour, forget about any teammates.
If only there were more people like me

Cassidy is the best only because he can wear power armor. Otherwise BrainBot has a better selection of combat options and is better with weapons. Neither can use Drugs so either one is groovy. Marcus just blows unless you are hurting for some DPS in your 5th NPC slot sho nuff.. which you aren't able to fill anyhow

So.. yes.. Cassidy

once cassidy has staged up to stage3 or 4 he's a nightmare. Give him hardened power armor, and if you take him with to the Enclave, your old ADV power armor. And a pulse rifle, or turbo plasma if you aren't using it, and watch the bodies pile up.

I think better is Cassidy than Marcus because Cassidy can use an armour ahd he have very good small gun skill.

NPC's are good in early game, whoever they be, they're always a helpful hand. But that's all: in late game they're useful only to take the shots in your place, which means they must have an armor to take all the dmg and survive. So Marcus is out of question: he's to clumsy, and dumb (he always rush to enemies with his useless fists... it's nice when your fighting mole rats and other pityfull animals, but when an Enclave Guard faces you, Marcus will get killed veery easily, taking criticals all the time). So Cassidy is the best choice, althought I think you can do good without him. That is so if you're the kind of player who's more worried about upping your character than finishing the game with a cool ending. And that's why I gather as much teamattes as I can, just for fun, but when it comes to usefullness, get Cassidy and other resistant NPC's to share the damage you'd take.
