need help

twice now ran into the same stopping point... the drow city. I'm playin straight outta the box, no mods, no cheats, and I'm getting my head handed back on a platter! No matter what I try (evasion/combat) I get hit by a high level party before going to meet soulifien at the illithids and result is same, the blasted drow turns on me for being late. To test, no rest, mass invis to bypass, and wait for souli.... same result. To test further, ran the combat, had main pc alive, and still souli says I'm late, yada, yada...

Any help... spoilers or not would be deeply appreciated! I need to get away from these insipid drow

Between talking to Sola at the exit of the drow city and leaving the town, do you make any sidequests/rests or anything like that? I've always gone straight to the place and never been "late". You have plenty of time to deal with the "highlevel" party outside of the city.

Want a hint/spoiler that will easily and fast get you through the Underdark?

One word: Dragonhunting.

If you can't kill a party, I'm sure a dragon is impossible.

Basically, the first time I played, the same thing happened to me. Your level isn't high enough, so your best bet is to load a bit more, and try and kill wandering parties of drow, explore the caverns, or kill the elements.

OR load a save before you got the quest to rescue Phaere. Go straight outside the Illithid caverns and let him summon the guys, kill them, continue as a drow. of course, you go through the party first. The only problem I found there was the Thief getting up close to my casters. If you can't deal with this party you can't deal with the Illithid party, OR as dj_venom stated the dragon.
