Fable quits

Post by Excruciating »

Hi I have a little problem with playing Fable TLC.
The thing is, after I've played for 10-15 min. or so the game quits. This is getting really annoying especially because I have to restart my pc because it changes the whole screen format into something really obscur. Anyways I was hoping someone here could help me out,
I've been to the microsoft games homepage and tried some of the FAQs but couldn't solve it from those.
Thanks on advance.

#3 - Profanity and/or sexually explicit posts are unacceptable. Purposely posting profanity in a way as to avoid our filter will not be tolerated. In extreme cases, we may even file complaints with your ISP or hosting company.

You agreed to these rules when you joined. That means no attempts to avoid our filter as you did, above, or your posting privileges will be suspended. Our host's in the US, and the net nannies have already closed down a bunch of "general admission" boards that posted "profanity." I could probably melt the hair off your head with my own vulgarities in RL, but up here, we have to make due. Because GameBanshee's been around 6 years, and we want it around 6 more.

Consider yourself appropriately warned.

Wow, I'm so very, very sorry. I had no idea what profanity actually ment .. I actually made the ***** just to filter it (with good intentions, not to avoid your filter). Nvm, I'll edit the post.

It sounds similar to a problem that I had when I first tried Fable on the PC. My problem was a combination of my graphics card driver and the sound acceleration settings.

Go to your graphics card vendor and update your drivers to the latest drivers.

For the sound acceleration, follow these steps.
1. Click Start, and then click Run.
2. In the Open box, type dxdiag, and then click OK.
3. Click the Sound tab.
4. Under DirectX Features, move the Hardware Sound Acceleration Level slider all the way to the left (the No acceleration setting).
5. Click Exit.

I'm not sure why the sound acceleration impacts the graphics of the game, but I've had issues where this being too high crashed a couple of games.

Good luck.

(OT) Boy, I saw this thread on the main forum screen with fable as the last post and so thought this was going somewhere else. Glad to see I was wrong.

lol, I'm sorry if the Title is a bit missleading (guess its a good way to make people look). Anyways thanks Darzog, I'll try out your advice out tomorrow.
As for getting updates from my graphic card vendor.. well, how do I figure out what my graphic card is? (RADEON 9200 128mb (Saw that in dxdiag)??)

Google up Radeon, and go to ATI's website. Follow the links to their driver downloads, and be sure the driver you download is the right one for your specific card type.

I'd suggest doing a system backup manually before installing. You can't be too careful.

Radeon doesn't appear to show anything based on the card type, but only by the operating type. I just bought my first Radeon so I'm curious about this as well.

That website does appear to have them by card type. Just click Drivers & Software, then Radeon, then which of the 4 types of Radeon card you've got. Not seeing the 9200 there, I figured it was a subset of one of those four listed. So I googled "Radeon 9200," clicked on a listing for Amazon, and read further down, under Technical Details, "HYDRAVISION, ATI's multi-monitor management software, effortlessly organizes and controls display configurations for CRTs, screens and flat panel displays..."

So it appears to be a subset of the Hydravision choice.

At least, that's what I think. I am not responsible if you make this choice, and find I'm wrong. Because the choice is yours. ;)

And I have very little knowledge of computers. It's all about googling. :)

Heh, I've already downloaded those three available downloads for RADEON... and the "HYDRAVISION, ATI's multi-monitor" only makes you able to make loads of virtuel desktops. No idea what the other two actually did. Arhg, I really want to play this game!!!!!! :(

Let's try something else, then. Are you running an anti-virus or anti-spam software, or anything in the background that you can close before playing?

How much memory have you got?

ok, good news. I dont need any updates for my RADEON. bad news, I need updates for my sound, video and >>games<< card (Realtek AC'97 Audio for VIA (R) Audio Controller). I managed to get this information, by using a scanner that tells me what drivers are good and wich are not. Only problem now is I can't just download the updates, unless I buy the whole product, and that's a 30 dollars (A lot of money for one update, don't you think?). This is driving me mad...
It seems like there is no place where you can get an update for free.

A scanner? Do you mean, using a scanning tool in a website, to look at your computer? Because those aren't 100% reliable.

I downloaded it. And your right. I tried dissactivating my sound card. Yay! It didn't work ..
So I'm back to square one, and I've got no clue what to do..
Do think that it could be that it's the game thats the problem? A malfunction on the CD or something ??...
