Why all the books???

Post by toner »

I know in oblivion there are heaps of books, lots of them are intructional ones and books with handy info, such as the alchemists guide and stuff like that. but i was just wondering wats teh point of all the other books, like te history on tamriel and stuff, are they just there to be read if you feel like it? or do any of the books, scrolls, parchments etc etc offer any advantages to yoru character if you read them? (apart from the obvious instructional books)

The books are there to give the world a more realistic feel. They also mean that people don't automatically rush to the bookshelves as a priority - it makes the trainer books a reward for the dilligent, which is a large part of what this game is about.

There's more to it than that. A few books provide clues towards important important information you'll need in the game. Others give you excellent background on things you'll find. And there are some books (trainers, which you didn't elaboarate on,above) scattered about that, upon reading, raise one skill by one level. (Each only does this, once.)

For the rest, I was actually disappointed at the apparent decrease in books in the game. There are huge shelves of them, with different bindings, but it will turn out that each is often the same work: 20 copies of A, 30 copies of B, etc. Quite a lot of books weren't moved over from MW, though I know of at least modder who's planning to put back the rest of them in the game. :)

Sweet, nice news Fable :)

I love my books and of course, lo and behold, The Ruins of Kemel Ze made it over. Gah.
And He whispered to me in the darkness as we lay together, Tell Me where to touch you so that I can drive you insane; tell Me where to touch you to give you ultimate pleasure, tell Me where to touch you so that we will truly own each other. And I kissed Him softly and whispered back, Touch my mind.

Yes, I know. ;) I've been using it since it first appeared. But we're discussing Oblivion and its books, and the only boook mod being worked on that I'm aware of involves just the MW texts. I do hope they (or somebody else) extends it to Daggerfall, however.
