Lesser Caly Golem bug

Post by boo's daddy »

Decided to start again, trying an evil path for the first time.

In Irenicus' dungeon, I killed the lesser clay golems in their little room right at the start. Imagine my surprise when I was attacked by them whilst sauntering back to do the Djinni quest!

Still more surprising: their status tooltip said "Lessr Clay Golem: Dead".

And the final straw: nothing could hit them, +1 staff, blunt weapons, summoned air elemental, nothing. They mashed Minsc and Jaheira and I only escaped with a potion of speed.

Is this a bug? I couldn't find any mention of it from doing a search.

Hmm, i've killed the golems in their pens before, but this has never happened, must be a bug.
Rebel in decibels, against - what? The same-old, whatever they've got.

Maybe cause you took the evil path the game decided to be cruel to you ? Nah.

Definately a bug - they shouldn't have reappeared if you killed them in their little hole.

I once had a similar problem, but instead of being attacked by dead golems, I was attacked by dead trolls. I had installed a bunch of MODs, so I figured one of them might have screwed something up. I thought it might have something to do with Improved Tor'Gal, but I didn't know exactly what was going on. I never finished that game, and by the time I played BG2 again, I had a new hard drive in my computer. I reinstalled the game, and I never had the same problem again.

Since you're still in Irenicus's dungeon, you wouldn't lose much playing time if you reinstalled the game and started from scratch. If you want to keep playing your current game without reinstalling, you can kill the golems that should already be dead by using CTRL-Y.

I hope this helps.

I've had this happen as well, in a couple of ways. The first was as you said, with them being invincible and mashing my party. They killed my protagonist as well, and after reloading the game worked normally. Another time, they were killed in a single hit each, and I received experience for them a second time.

I think it's a bug in the official SoA patch for the game, as it had never happened to me before, and I only patched for the first time just recently, as I don't run mods or play multiplayer.

It may work like the unkilable trolls. It neverhappened with me with the golems, but it happened with the spectral trolls.

Anyways, reloading from a previous point would be nice. Also, not stealing Irenicus stuff before heading to the air pocket plane would help, I guess.
Flesh to stone ain't permanent, it seems.

Or, for that matter, not killing the golems before the alarm goes off.

I read an explanation for the unkillable troll bug, it's something one of the components of the Tactics MOD is supposed to fix:

[QUOTE=Streamlined Trolls]In the unmodded game trolls carry a special item that makes their minimum hit point value 1 (so they cannot be killed). Their AI script constantly looks to see if their actual hit points are below some value (usually 12). If they are, the troll is replaced by a special alternate troll creature (the "lying down" one) that has one hit point and lacks the special minhp item but is immune to most types damage. Unfortunately, any number of situations can cause the game to fail to check that script condition (e.g., the troll is held, or many party members are beating on it at once), resulting in an "unkillable" troll that sits arond soaking up blows until (e.g.) your party walks away to give it time to "breathe and fall over".
