Closing the gates *spoilers*

Post by Ashen »

Are you bothering with closing the Oblivion gates?

I've encountered 8 by now and they seem totally random, I've closed 3. It seems interesting for they change, not counting the main tower. Nice alchemy though the further I get in lvls the tougher it gets. I really dislike that mace of burden ... anyone else doing it or are you skipping it, and will just do the MQ ones?
And He whispered to me in the darkness as we lay together, Tell Me where to touch you so that I can drive you insane; tell Me where to touch you to give you ultimate pleasure, tell Me where to touch you so that we will truly own each other. And I kissed Him softly and whispered back, Touch my mind.

just closed my 19th gate.. to be honest there are small differences but they DO start to repeat. once youve done a few then you will be able to go through the rest blindfolded. still the loot is great :D

Yes, I see what you mean. I just finished my 4th one and the tunnels were very similar to the 3rd time I went in. But it's fine I guess, the loot is much better than anything I have been able to find out of the plane so it is ok.

I noticed though that I couldn't close one, I guess that's the one that's MQ related, interesting anyway.

Near L. I kept going round and round, there were no exits for any other tunnel. It kept bringing me back to the surface. That's the one that's closest to it, up and a bit to the right.

I've only closed two, I usually run away when I see them. I don't really like going in there....scary.

I am not sure if the randomess of the Gates means they are different for every game but ultimately you take the sigil stone that is on the top of the Tower. Meaning you have to get to the top in order to do it - now I've encountered having to go through halls (caves, series of them) to get to the tower and going to two, unlocking the third and then going there. Am not sure if this is familiar with the one you have problems with.

You should start a new topic for discussion, dbake, using other people's threads is considered spam, and we're lenient with spam only on Speak your mind. Keep the discussion about closing or not the portals going, seems interesting, but lets keep the spam at a minimum.

I just closed the gate south of Chorrel, but it was confusing. The towers are right in front of you when you enter. There was I think 5 towers all connecting with bridges. I couldn't find any doors that go up to the next level, or even down a level. So if just jumped off the side of the ledge where the big lava beam is shooting up and made my guy land on the lower level. There I found the area that went up to the top level to close the gate. I must of missed a door or something, but I just used my great acrobatic skills to jump spiderman style to get where I needed to be. Having good leaping abilities comes in very handy, you can complete quest without having to go through doors if you can't find them, obviously as I explained above.

back to the original question, nope... I have done one after the initial one and my map is littered with them but its just not tempting (well thats a bit of a lie, those sigil stones do make for some very nice weaponry). My one fear is that the map is going to be full of them at somepoint soon and a message is going to come up saying 'you had a mission but instead you chose to run the fighters guild and kill minatour lords once a week. You suck' :p

Hah, that's just it! My map is littered. Well not totally but there are a lot of them. I have a strange impulse to go all out today and close as much as I can.

The sigil stones are getting better, that I am sure of. Will be very good for enchanting. I think it is worth it, up to the point where you hit the repeating of the sigils. I was naughty, so checked out the TES CS for the number - just took a little glance - there are a lot!

Oh and besides it does kill the landscape when one of these pops up. I feel obliged to go for it.

I stopped after 1 random because a matter of days (in game time) later another one had appeared in the same (or at least very close) area. but you're right the sigil stones are great for enchanting not least because they tend to have about double the charge of a grand soul gem (which is a bit stupid in my view but meh :p )

Oh yes, they respawn! Wicked! I am actually liking them. I think the whole point of the somewhat short MQ was mucking about with the Gates. It seems like the only reasonable answer. And the further you go up in your lvl it should be harder. And it is ... nasty beasties are coming up at me lately.

And yes it is double, cool. And you just click on them to enchant, no need for going to the Arc Uni for it. I haven't used any so far, am still weighing my options.

I've been having the urg to just run through and close them but then I would miss out on a lot of loot.

I'm trying to close my first gate...the one at Kvatch. I've gotten the key that the guy in the cage told me that I needed to get.

My map locator keeps pointing to a Runed Portal Gate....or something like that. But, when I click to use it, it just sends me to different 'level' within Bloodbath.

What am I missing/overlooking?

towers go up. teleporters transport you further up or down the tower. the different heights look very similar visually but if youve just used a teleporter thingy then chances are you are on a higher level of the central hall.
