Can this system play Oblivion?

Post by Vikramaditya »

Hello all,

I probably already know the answer to this, but here goes.. I have an old P4 2.4GHZ machine w/ 1GB RAM, running XP SP1. It currently has an old Geforce Ti200 on it, and runs rather slow even with Morrowind. Since I cannot afford to blow 2k on a new machine right now, I was thinking of upgrading my Video card to a Geforce 7600 256MB GT in the hope of playing Oblivion..

Could anyone hazard a guess as to my performance with this setup? Would I get a reasonable resolution (at least 800x600) without lag? If I cannot, I might as well save my money and spring for a new computer when I have the cash. Many Thanks..

should be able to run

well it looks like you are doing better then the minimum requirements, the 1gb of ram is fine, and the 2.4ghz should be ok, im not too sure about the video card, however my mate runs it on 800x600 with a 6600gt 1gb ram and a AMD 3200 without hiccups, there are lots of options u could tinker with to make it play better in terms of graphics.you should be able to manage

It won't be able to run Oblivion. You might, with the shader hack, be able to run it at 640x480 with below-minimum graphics, but that's all.

And the 7600GT currently does not have an AGP version, and if you want to get equivalent performance, you'll have to buy the 7800GS, currently at $300.

This topic has been discussed many times. You can find the sys requirements here:

Therefore, if you dont have that equipment, you cant play. Thread closed. ;)
Flesh to stone ain't permanent, it seems.
