FPS how do you check?

Post by William Bobo »

Probably a dumb question but how do I know what my frame rate is in the game?

Well, you can download this program, http://www.fraps.com

And open that before you start oblivion. That will show you the frame rate and make you able to take screenshots and videos of the game.

Though, check the configeration of the program first, since I think F9 activates Video. And thats the quickload in Oblivion. So, just change that in the FRAPS program.

Or alternatively, for the in-game fps counter, you need to bring up the console and type tdt.

To open the console; well it varies depending on what region keyboard you use. Its meant to be the tilde key, but on UK keyboards thats next to enter. Best bet it to just press the key immediately left of '1'. Type tdt, press enter and your away ;)

Just curious what a good FPS is. I was getting upwards into the 70's.

Depends where you are and ofcourse your settings. More importantly, what you perceive as 'good' FPS. I myself am happy with anything over twenty, but some don't settle for less than 40-50.

If its smooth and looks pretty, I'd say you have a good fps ;)
