Infamy and a couple questions (Spoilers)

I've been playing ESIV for about a week now and rather than make numerous posts I am just going to ask in one. So I appologize for the random topic skips that follow.
First on infamy. Is there any way to raise Infamy besides the Theif/Dark Brotherhood quests? I am trying to play a rather evil character, but it seems 90% of the quests give Fame and not Infamy reward. On that note is there any reward or recognition for getting a high fame/infamy rank? I know you need certain ranks to get certain quests, but is there any other type of recognition?
I also had a question about keeping items that you recieve during a quest instead of turning it in for the crappy reward. Namely the continuation of the seperated at birth quest. Where a man comes up to you and talks about their father being a thief and wants you to return a sword to him. He pays 2k or you can be good and return it to the castle for a decent shield. But the sword is a 12dmg long sword (with 60ish strength) at really low level (below 5). 12 damage at this level is insane - silver long sword is 8 I think.
I resisted keeping some items from the thieve quests (like that staff from the mage tower) because I wanted to continue on with the thief missions. However this quest doesnt have a continuation so I don't see much of a negative in not finishing it. Have others of you been tempted to keep items you get in a quest instead of finishing it also?
