Super demi-lich killer strat
Not sure if this has been submitted or not..but it seems to work every time.
1. Everyone knows you can get two rings of the ram, one from pickpotting, one from killing.Everyone also knows that the ring does full damage to just about everything in the game.
2. Before fighting the demi- put both rings of the ram on your mage-
3. Make your mage immune to imprisonment- (duh)
4. Cast simusalcum, or whatever- now you have four rings of the ram!
5. (If your mage has staff of the magic, activate the spell trap option on the simu mage, otherwise just move quickly)
6. In two rounds, you can hit the demi-lich w/ 4 rings of the ram now- most of the time, it's enough to kill him.

I partly agree: the stuff isn't there to be left lying in the gutter. However, the art is in using the absolute minimum, at your lowest levels. Spell Immunity and Melf's, for example, are low level spells that can do the job. Everybody can kill him with Comet...

If you want to kill him in the first round cast improved haste on a fighter wielding the Improved mace of disruption, that has a scroll of prot from magic active. He usually dies in one of the first 4 blows...

The fastest way is the Ctrl-Q button, slowest is using wizard eye and melf's minute meteor from one mage. They are level 3 & 4 spells and I am sure can use them from the start (if you can find them!).
Sorcery and Shadow together as one, the arcane and the dark united. Through our knowledge and skill none can stand against us. We are as one, infallible and invincible. The Shadow Mages.
I'm sure your strategy is ever-so very effective, but the fact of the matter is that to use it, you have to exploit the game far more than you would if you merely used the reload button to keep trying, a strategy which you have expressed distaste for in the past.
Behold the Metatron - Herald of the Almighty and Voice of the One True God!
In a wonderful game group I used to play PnP with, we had a thief who was *always* -- and I mean ALWAYS -- trying to steal from the humanoid monsters while the rest of us were killing it. And he did it somewhat surrepticiously so that none of the rest of the group knew what was going on. Folks were always wondering where he came up with extra rings and coins, and he and I would laugh about it sometimes. He did get caught trying to pick King Azoun IV's pocket at a reception, though, which cost him a finger.
Anyway, even Jan agrees. Every time I send him out to pick someone's pocket he tell's me that's a good plan.
The ability to get two of anything is not a real cheat because it exists within the framework of the game, not as a result of "cloning" a character in multiplayer to do it, or using the CLUAConsole. I was gonna go for two, but I made of mistake of walking in the front door of the government building with Valygar in tow and Tolgerias immediately teleported away, shouting obscenities at me. Yeah, I could have reloaded, but I didn't. I did however have my little thief friend snatch Kangaxx's backup ring

Well having two rings of Ram isnt that unrealistic... if you read the description of the ring it doesnt sound like its a very unique ring, and there couldnt be other rings just like it... but the ring of Gaxx however.......

Yes!!!
Well how you like playing your game is your busisness, but 2 rings of Gaxx is just to cheap for words... 2hp every 3 secs... +4 bonus to armor class, +4 bonus to savng throws... i think even 1 ring of Gaxx is cheap... but this is just my opinion ofcourse.

@Sloanzilla, I think what folks are really saying (if you dig down beneath the admittedly rather thick layers of disgust, horror, and repulsion) is that what you suggest is all too easy. In a true RPG world, you wouldn't be able to pickpocket for a second Ring of the Ram--that was a coding problem. And there were problems with the Simulcrum spell that have never been completely fixed, which allows anyone to duplicate a ton of items and spells.
Going by the rules of the world, you would have to come up with some clever strategy to defeat the demi-lich. That's nothing wrong with you doing whatever you damn well please with your copy of the game, and nobody should tell you otherwise. But at the same time, it just doesn't feel right in the BG2 universe. Your solution is imposed from the outside.
In any case, that's the way I see it.

To the Righteous belong the fruits of violent victory. The rest of us will have to settle for warm friends, warm lovers, and a wink from a quietly supportive universe.
