Why can't I hit anything?

Post by Hadrial »

I recently started a new character-dwarf fighter.I got my light weapons skill up to 63 yet when i fight it takes an amazing 10 minutes (i'm not joking) for the dwarf to actually hit the enemy. Is the skill too high or something?I tryed using a trainer and even with a 700 lvl skill i still can't hit them.Is it me or is there a problem?

63? 700???!! I never took my fighters LW past 6, and I have no problem. By trainer, I assume you mean a save game editor ... I never found the need to use one of those. Don't waste a lot of points on early skills if you are going to get better eventually. Just spend what you need until you advance. My guess is you aren't getting in close enough. Weapons have a range, some you have to be closer than others, and if you are standing still and just trying to whack at something when you are inside its range, that would be your problem. You have to pretty much always be moving forward in battle since a lot of the times they hit you, it will push you back. This isn't one of those games you can just stand in place and click like a crazy person, you have to move around a lot, especially when you start fighting things that cast, and you have to dodge it. Take the time in the beginning game to get the combat thing down, it will help a lot as you go. I saw a review that claimed this game required no strategy, and I laughed. You definitely need to get those moves down.

Those extremely high stats do not give you an advantage. For instance, you should keep your vitality around 25 or less. This insures that your health does not go over 100. The closer to 100 health, enemies and critters also get stronger.

Keep vitality around 22 to 25, weapons and defense to about 25.

Scout, athletics, scribe, iron will, can safely be set whatever you see fit.

I get stronger and the monsters get stronger...just great. If i happen to have a killing machine for a character i'd have to fight hundreds of others just as strong as me.Ok , if i keep some stats low and some high will that solve the problem?(btw i see spells kill almost anything in 2-3 shots , or it's maybe just me again)

Keep vitality below 25 to prevent Health from getting too high.
Set the other five stats to 100 or more.

Set Iron Will to 100 or more.

Set the resistances (acid, magic, fire, ice, etc.) to 100. This is what the Ring of Protection does, and obviously you never need the Gas Mask.

Learn some strategies :) .

Back off, get in an alley way or hall so only one or two can come at you at the same time. If you are talking about the thieves area in Fargrove, it's rough at lower levels, and it's meant to be. On the other hand, if you stay near the entrance and only fight the ones that come to you, you can pop out if it gets too rough for you, and it's an excellent way to build up your character, and get lots of potions and lockpicks while you are at it, to say nothing of junk weapons and armor to sell. After a while, you will think nothing of wading in there and just taking them out. Get a few nova spellbooks too, and you can take them out fast. Once they are more of a nuisance than a real challenge, it's easy enough to do what is needed in that area. If you are working on Guild of Mystery quests, you need a strong character to do the Cuthbert Mansion anyway, so this is not a bad place to build up.
