I am on that dark brotherhood quest where you have to go kill the guy in the cell but you cant kill any guards. I cant seem to find any invisibility spells or scrolls anywhere. How did you guys sneak past the guards?
By sneaking... Invisibility spells were a real stickler for me, I just trained my illusion up to a point where I could barely cast a spell called 'Shadow Shape' which I bought fomr Ita Reinus in the mages guild in Bravil (I was also a mage, you need access to the Arcane University for this to work), I then went to the Arc. Uni. and made a spell of Invisibility on self for 7 seconds, it worked wonders, it was a low cost spell (I think it cost all of ten magicka), and I could dodge all sorts of guards beneath the prison.
If God did not exist, it would be necessary to invent him.

What helped me a lot, besides having a high sneak level, was a helm that gives you life-detect. There are plenty of things around that give you life-detect - or alternatively, you could stock up on potions or spells, but I find that a pain having to recast all the time.
But, yeah - life-detect, and you can see them coming before they can see you.

I was able to get through just sneaking (with a sneak skill of 47 or so) using the shrouded armor and black band. My suggestion would be to experiment a little bit try to figure out the guards paths and especially where on their path they can see you. Also don't be afraid to sneak run, sometimes I'd get caught by guards if I moved to slowly and they suddenly turned and caught me, if you run, they may turn around to check but you'll be long gone. This mission is a tough one (easily the hardest DB mission that I've done) but a little trial and error and you'll get it.
Don't get me angry, I'm running out of places to hide the bodies
You get the bonus by not killing the gaurds right?
The first time I tried this mission I instantly got sighted and just legged it, as long as you don't kill the gaurds you'll get the bonus, you just have to be faster than 4 gaurds in heavy armor with their weapons drawn.

And lo ye must learn of the great war that raged fo a couple of posts and brought the citadel momentaraly to its knees
Lookie!
I tend to appear briefly and disappear very quickly after that, try not to let it bother you.
I have finished the Mage quests, where in the University can you make spells? I only know of the place where you can enchant items.
Also how do you get into the orrery? I am the arch mage and it is still locked
Orrery is a plugin that the Bethesda is charging you two dollars for some content they forgot. Has nothing to do with being in the mages guild.
As for making spells, the building is called the Praxographical Center, and is close to the gate on the left site of the University.
