damage calculation?

Post by clinton5 »

I have just started a game of baldurs gate 2 and noticed that in a couple of the first fights I would on occasion do damage of 19 on a successful hit (non critical). My character is practically naked and is using a normal longsword which does damage of 1-8, he has a strength of 19(as I imported from bg1) and has grandmastery in long swords and 1 star in sword and shield style.

Now according to my calculations the most amount of damage I should be able to do would be 8(sword damage) + 7(strength modifier) + 3(grand mastery) = 18.

Is this a bug or is there something I have missed in the damage calculation?
I have also noticed Minsc doing more damage than he should, oh and I have the difficulty set to core rules and am totally unbuffed by spells etc..

If you attack someone in melee that is not equipped with a melee weapon, you get a damage bonus of +4. This is mentioned too among the tips on the loading screen. You probably attacked a goblin archer.

kind regards,
