Multiple items of the same name?

Post by fierydemise »

I was looking at the rewards for the various DB quests and for many of the items there are multiple items with identical stats other then the enchantments. Whats the deal with those?

Sort of related, but not on the DB side of things, is that this is a nice "loophole".

For example, I have come across 2 "Great Staff of Lightning". It shows up in the inventory as "2 x Great Staff of Lightning" (ie, they're not listed separately).

What this means, is that when I equip it to use, and then equip something else after having used it, it shows that this is still fully charged. So as long as I swap out weapons before the staff discharges fully, I never have to use Soul Stones to recharge my Staffs.

I also have two "Great Staff of Fire" for those lightning immunes.

:D :mischief:

I think some of the "multiple instances" of weapons that you are seeing in the equipment database have to do with the leveling of loot in regards to the level of your character.
Some quest items only have one instance, and it's effectiveness appears to be based on your characters skill levels (Blade, Blunt), strength levels etc.
For the items that have multiple instances, I could be wrong but I think that the power of the item varies, depending upon when you actually complete the quest and what level you are.

"the power of the item varies, depending upon when you actually complete the quest and what level you are."
Does this mean that a quest reward I get at a lower level becomes effectively useless after I've gone up a few levels?

How could we, until Bethsoft releases a patch that says "it's a bug"? At best, I can state it certainly looks like a bug. I found a mace required for a sidequest, finished that quest, then later, returning to that dungeon, found it again. Now, it's stuck in my inventory, because Bethsoft feels we're too young and ignorant to know that quest objects shouldn't be discarded. I suspect what we have here is an error in simply respawning entire dungeons without flagging found quest objects ahead of time. But we'll just have to wait to find out, for certain.

Sorry maybe I should have been more clear, I'm wondering why there are multiple items of the same name in the database on this site? Is it just part of the leveled reward system?

Leveled rewards, and yes, the items do become rather useless as you level up. There's a mod out there that supposedly ensures you get the best reward no what your level, but I haven't tried it.

Same thing is annoying me greatly now. For instance I now have 3 Hand-Written Notes as part of the Mages Guild Quest. (Got these from a Worm Anchorite that keeps respawning at one of the altars.) Also I picked up Arrow of Extrication after having used it thinking that I could display it in my house.(Big mistake, because now I can't drop it.) Same for a few keys I collected from the Mages Guild.

Does anybody know if there is a way other than with a mod to get rid of these quest items? (I know that they weigh nothing but as I play on the Xbox it takes a little while longer to scroll down my list of items and it just gets annoying to have those extra items to scroll through that are moot and pointless.)

No, unfortunately mods are the only way to get rid of quest items, so on the 360 you're stuck with 'em. Take my Ring of Vipereye. Please. (rim shot).
Can the answer to this question be "No"?
