I like longswords the most in the game.

P.S. I think you forgot to include greatswords. :)
''They say truth is the first casualty of war. But who defines what's true? Truth is just a matter of perspective. The duty of every soldier is to protect the innocent, and sometimes that means preserving the lie of good and evil, that war isn't just natural selection played out on a grand scale. great swords are the best in the game. And it isn't my opinion, it's a fact.

Wow that was ignorant. Yes, great swords are definitely the most powerful, but then you have some long swords such as Avo's Tear or the Sword of Aeons that are also very powerful, though weaker than some great swords, but are also faster than some great swords. Equally efficient in my eyes.

My girlfriend has the special edition TLC and on that one I'd say the Bereaver is definetly the best weapon in the game just because its a legendary weapon that is fully customizable. The only problem is that on my version of the game it sort of sucks by comparison. It only has one slot and its already filled with a fire augmentation. But after really deciding on my favorite fighting style I ended up making my own primary weapon. The legendary weapons are nice but they just aren't what I'm looking for. I took a master greataxe (greatsword would have been technically better but I like the axe more) and outfitted it with three mana augmentations. Then I max out physical shield and put it on. The effect this has is that, for most fights if I pay any attention, my mana refills faster than my enemies can take it away. Avo's Tear and Sword of Aeons are nice but I like the range and arc of the larger weapons.

I prefer "light" and "long".

The difference in damage is made up for in number of hits + you can spin and fight in an arc-like fashion to keep enemies off you.

My standard progression is; iron longsword > obsidian longsword(... need to do all the side quests; maybe a boast or two and get the trader to orchard farm without a scratch to get the $3,4000 > master longsword(... run the troll outside lookout point for Ruby's to sell in Oakvale; need to get guile up to 6; lightning/flame/piercing - before Blind Seeres quest) > Harbinger > Avo's Tear

I'll run the Hobbe cave for xp needed to up my strength stats(The Harbinger).
Plus, you can get more Ruby's outside.
I needed the obsidian longsword, as anything less was "not good" :-)

At least that's my de facto progression.
I tried shorter weapons, but I can't block/roll = took too much damage .... Assassin Rush or Slowtime helped, but when the fighting gets really thick, I tended to get overwhelmed

Have not tried bows ... I'm going to give it a try with multi-arrow + slowtime on this replay

Anyway that's my take on weapons based on gameplay + help I received on this forum per my fighting style/ physical limitations.

Everybody says that you make up for the damage in number of hits with a light weapon but it just isnt the case. They aren't that much faster and the amount of damage that is done is far more significant. Also you can claim that its possible to fight with the same arc with a light weapon but there is a definite difference between the breadth of the two strokes. My character is evil so I spend alot of time fighting guards and whenever I use a light weapon the fight goes the same way. I hit the guard a couple of times, he blocks and then immediately hits me twice basically demolishing my cm. However, if I use a heavy weapon then what happens is I hit them they die.blah.blah.blah, we're all just using the weapons we think are coolest and then making up reasons why they're functionally better. If somebody wants to start posting actual fighting styles that could be interesting.

snoopyofour - well, I can only tell you my observstion + works for me ?
I'm disabled, so I can't block/roll. My strategy is: "best defense is a good offense".
When I first played TLC, I noticed several things per my playing style.....>
1) shorter weapons caused me to take more damage
2) heavy weapons had a slower swing rate
3) to beat the Chief, I had to use angles + spin my hero to cause diferent attacks

I ran: 1) some trolls .. 2).. hobbe cave(... low damage weapons) .. 3) Thunder ... 4) The Arena

I bought the Solus Greatsword.
I am using The Harbinger.

On the trolls, the hit frequency is greater with Harbinger ... so much so, the damage numbers overlap.
They don't with the Greatsword.

Thunder whooped me in melee :-)
But, using The Harbinger + my angles, caused him more damage.

The Arena ... tested both swords vs The Bandits, as they block and are quicker than the undead.
I beat them with both swords, but The Harbinger was easier.

It may be just dumb luck or gameplay mechanics; I don't know ?

But I've noticed.........>
1) straight attacks get blocked
2) inactivity causes me to get hit

So, I just keep "swinging" + "change the attack angle with the mouse" + " do a 180 with my mouse/hero".
This seems to keep hitting the enemy, thus it can't hit me back ... the hitting + shifting my hero's alignment to the object causes a disalignment and I'm able to get thru blocks easier ... sometimnes, by doing a 180, I'm even able to get behind the enemy
Again, could just be luck ?

The Harbinger performed better when surrounded.
Both weapons were fine in a straight-line fight.

I'm not evil, so I don'y know about the Guards ... the hit points etc
They seem to use a Obsidian/Master Longsword ... plus when they would follow me(...quest), they seemed to attack quickly ?

If I get in 1 1/2 hits with the Harbinger, it should be close to the Solus ?
Plus, with the attack speed(... it is faster = the damage/frequency numbers prove it), the enemy can't hit + block ... big difference if you're surrounded.

Well, that's my deduction based on tonights play with different weapons/different enemies/single-three enemies vs 5+ enemies.
It might not amount to a hill of beans, but the above is my observation based on gameplay + watching the damage counter in a fight(s).

I was excluding the legendary weapons. Isn't the Solus Great sword the best?

In terms of actual attack power, yes. I have all the legendary weapons and I just like to go around and get kills with all of my weapons. :D

Hello.

Like I already mentionned on my reply at the post "Light vs. Heavy" many things depends on the enemy! I mean, come on! You aren't planning to go kill wasps with a Heavy Weapon?! Or start fighting Wraith with a katana...
Besides one of the main reasons people use Light Weapons is because your Hero's response to your mouse-click is faster then if you would use Heavy Weapons. So the reason some people chose Light is not because they might deal out less damage... But because they recieve less damage!
Someone mentionned that he's evil and has always got alot of guards to deal with, and that he hits them 2 times with a Light Weapon after wich they block and hit back. Well: If you know their routine battle strategy that good why won't you adapt yours to it? Simply hit them 2 times and then - knowing that they'll block and strike back - block their attack and continue hitting.
I also heard that all you guys like Longswords... O.K. But aren't Katana's more powerful and have an equal range, or is it the coolness that attracts your favour?

Project 404, I think you're missing the point, why should I adapt my fighting style to the enemy? What advantage could there possibly be to allowing an enemy to live longer just so I can use a light weapon to beat him. If I'm fighting a guard then I'm not fighting him one on one. He's got buddies who are either trying to hit me in the back or are shooting at me. I don't have time to play three musketeers with these guys I'm going to kill them as quickly as possibly and I'm going to use the weapon that does that, which is Solus. I think you didn't even read my post about the blocking guards because you missed my point completely. My point was that light weapons do not make up for less damage with more hits because you tend to be able to get the same number of hits in against an enemy before they block. Yes, any weapon can beat any enemy (with the exception of Jack). But I like moving through games quickly and so I use heavy weapons.
