Conjuring Winged Twilights

Post by fable »

I thought I'd use a scroll to conjure up a Winged Twilight, trap its soul, and enchant it into a piece of wearable merchandise for my own devious and inscrutable purposes. However, I find that despite having the scroll, I can't cast it. It doesn't show up in my spell lists, and of course you don't directly cast scrolls.

Is this a problem of a scroll requiring simply more magicka than a character currently possesses? Or is something else going on, here?

In advance, thanks.

I don't think its the magicka thing as I'm sure I've used scrolls to summon Golden Saints while still at a low level plus I've used loads of opening scrolls when I've run out of magicka.

Do you have any mods that alter spells/scrolls etc.? It could be a mod that is causing it.

I have plenty of mods in place, but none I know of doing that. Still, it's just possible one of them found the whole "summon and slay" rather sneaky.

Too bad I only decided to try this cheese so many years after the game first came out. And now a mod is ruining my fun. ;)

If its a case of the scroll not being recognised as such so it does not appear in your spell window, maybe you could use the CS to fix it. I wouldn't know where to start doing that though lol

What's suspicious is that all other scrolls appear to be recognized, so it could just be that the thing's been made uncastable. But then, if another mod furnished the scroll, the two would interact--and you would have the scrolls, but no way to use them.

I didn't even think that the conjure Winged Twilights existed, you sure that it isn't a quest item you have there?.

Pretty sure, but not positive. I also discovered the spell for purchase and got it, but as I suspected, I don't have enough magicka to cast it. So it could be that scrolls simply don't show up for casting if you lack the necessary magicka--though strange, since scrolls supposedly don't use your magicka.

Every scroll I ever find shows up in my spell window so I don't think its because of your magicka (as you said, scrolls don't use magicka). Mind you this could be because of the type of builds I tend to use as I usually have characters with the magicka bonuses etc. as I tend to play magic users.

I've always been able to cast summons from scrolls, no matter my magicka level or character type. My guess is that this is related to a mod you are using...

Damn. I just checked the mods I've got loaded, and I can't find one that's currently doing this. :(

It looks like my other thought was probably correct: it's not a mod, but simply uncastable for my current character at this point. Intelligence is 100 (with Trebonius' little amulet to help), but Willpower is about 70, and Conjuration is only 34. I temporarily set Conjuration to 100, and suddenly my chance of success on the WT spell moved from 0 to 76. The scroll still won't show up, but I noticed all scrolls show a 100% casting chance. This may mean that to use a scroll, you must first have a 100% chance of success with it.

How does it calculate the 100% chance of success with a scroll? Its not the same as the willpower/conjuration needed for the spell as I use golden saint scrolls all the time when I am nowhere near powerful enough to be able to get close to casting them without failing the majority of the time - I've even used golden saint scrolls when my character had 0% chance of casting the actual spell. Unless one of your many mods changes the spell casting of scrolls so that its like that.

Could be, as you said. I've listed my mods. Hopefully, someone can tell me if one of them could be affecting things.

Like Mr. Sir, I've never had any problem casting summons scrolls... Even at level 4, I've been able to use the summon golden saint scrolls you get after finishing a certain series of quests in Balmora. Though, my characters do usually have a high intelligence and the Atronach sign. It has been a long time since I've played a pure fighter type... so my memory may be fuzzy.

I don't know what mod might be causing this, if it is a mod. But, in order to test things out I'd suggest using the console for experimentation purposes. Edit in a variety of different summons scrolls (scamp, ancestor ghost, flame atronach, golden saint etc.) and also some high level scrolls of other schools like destruction... Then maybe see if there are only certain ones you can cast..

Scrolls are in no way affected by the character's attributes and/or skills, unless you have mods which affect this.

Does the scroll have the blue swirl or whatever enchanted symbol you're using.

The CS lists scrolls of summon

*Flame atronach
*Frost Atronach
*Golden Saint
*Skeleton

So that must be connected to a mod...
