Battle of the Bows

Post by dragon wench »

I just started using a crossbow again, after a long period of sticking to longbows.
Now granted, crossbows (unless you have modded ones) do not look as elegant as a bow. Further, their ultimate damage potential is not as high as that of a certain longbow. But, they are more accurate, and you will always get in 20 or 30 points damage, depending on the type of crossbow you have, no matter your Marksman skill level.
Needless to say, I'm presently appreciating the crossbow's efficacy.

So, which do you prefer?

I prefer crossbows, because you just aim and shoot. A longbow moves around in the character's hands, making it more awkward to use.

My favorite crossbow is the Dwemer Crossbow, which I think gets 30 points of damage.

I'm rather strange in that I don't particularly like either.

When I select Marksman as a skill I limit my character to the use of small esaily concealable "thrown weapons."

While they don't do as much damage, they do at to the sense of realism I feel when playing the game. (And I'm not forced to carry lots of heavy ammunition)

If I had to pick one I'd go for Bows simply because there are more options, you find more ammunition and there are more mods that cater for Bow users.

I'd have to say bow but thats probably more to do with the archers mods I am using as they cater more to bows than crossbows it seems. Before using the mods I hated marksman though as I hated all the ranged weapons in the game :)

I'm a star/spell person, but I like bows more. They look more realistic.

For the damage though, you're looking at he weapon alone. It is more than clear that the crossbow bolts have far more superior damage potential than the arrows. There may be one arrow that I can think of that can beat the bolt that I have in my mind, but that's about it.

The are more magical arrows.

And it feels better to shoot a bow than to shoot a crossbow.

Although there are more arrows, the bolts tend to be stronger.

I completely agree. I really like the animation for shooting the bow, not to mention that you have to aim at an arc in order to hit far away targets. No "auto hit". At least we have that part of reality.

Bows have better ammunition options that's what I like at the moment, it's also kinda fun (if slow to draw an arrow).

I haven't seen any good crossbows (or many good normal bows) really though.
