Stealing scrolls

Post by Mangle Me Elmo »

I'm playing as an evil party and my reputation is 1, so the prices for scrolls from the mage in Saradush is ridiculously high. My thief's pickpocket ability is 115 but I don't know if that affects stealing from a store. What should I do to increase my chances for a successful shoplift? Thanks in advance for any help.

No matter how high your pickpocket skill there is always a chance of failure so make sure you quicksave before attempting to steal anything. In the shop menu, choose the steal option and have a go. If you fail then reload. Also, if you have a spell that increases luck etc. then cast that first. Plus drinking potions that enhance your pickpocket skill will help.

You can drink 1-2 potions of master thievery or increase your dex. I don't know if wearing armor reduces the success skill, but it doesn't hurt to put it off before. Trying the luck spell doesn't hurt either.
Use the increased skill to pickpocket anything you want in the whole town.

I tend to find a ballpark of about 200 is a perfect score for stealing, any higher tends to lead to the glitched "wrap around" effect where one's steal score actually causes an increased chance of failure.

Drink some potions though and bring your score up.
