Fried CD Roms

Post by Philos »

I am not sure if I merely had bad luck or if PoR:RoMD has a tendency to fry CD Rom readers and mess up the NTdetect files. The computer I used to play the game on is my older computer. It is an AMD 500 MHz with a 5 Gig HD. I had just updated to XP (from Win98) for my OS. While playing the game I experienced the loss of 2 CD Rom readers. One was the one that came with it and was a little old when I started playing the game anyhow, so I attributed that one to age. But a new out of the box 40X CD rom reader only lasted about 6-8 weeks before it went out as well. A month or two after that I had problems in that my NTdetect file got corrupted. I have read some of the threads about the game and have seen that it is very buggy. Could these be the fault of the game?

I would like to play it again but do not want to risk my new computer if it is the game causing the problems.

Any thoughts?

I never had any technical problems with the game like that, it doesn't work for my PC as the graphics card is too new for it now, but other than that....I suppose it's possible that your particular copy of the game could be causing the fault though.

Thanks

Appreciate the reply Ravager. Probably just bad luck on my part. I am not going to load it on my new machine, the graphics card on it is probably to new as well.

Thanks again.
