saving probs

i have the 360 version and about 140 odd save games and recently my game has not been saving and frequently the game crashes when i try to load a saved game - anyone having similar probs? tried deleting some of the earlier games and overwriting some of the earlier games with current games but they just result in a crash? is my xbox corrupted or something ? its getting really annoying having to go back over old saves to find one that actually loads and then doing old things over and over again to get back to the same point (sometimes resulting in a corrupted save yet again).
