No soul gem large enough?

No soul gem large enough?

I am level 12 now and when i use my greater soul trap spell then kill a creature i get a message saying no soul gem large enough although i have 20 Grand soul gems.

Human (and other sentient beings) souls are too big to fit into ordinary soul gems. You need to create black soul gems to fit larger souls.
