Dark and Light side have different endings. The force powers are also different, as well as the chance to resolve certain quests through different actions or dialogue choices for each side, although that's not much more for the most part that just choosing from the same list you get regardless.

But the last couple stages of the game do change depending on what side you are playing. That is where the storyline branches to either side, the rest of the game it actually isn't all that much different imo except for the force powers you use.

...and you can use the same force powers, you just pay a force point penalty for using the dark side powers as a light character, or vice versa.

I've been using darkside powers when I run light side characters, mainly because the light side powers suck.

There's nowhere near as much difference in storyline between LS and DS as there is in KOTOR2. The main differences I can remember are: spoilers please highlight

1) On Taris once you've reached the Vulkar boss you'll kill him if you're LS, or go back and wipe out the Beks for him if you're DS
2) On Manaan there's no real differnece to the main plot, only the way you choose to deal with the big fish
3) You'll probably resolve the problem of Jehani by killling her if you're DS, so you won't have her as a companion
4) On the Unknown world you'll take different sides in the war between tribes
5) On Kashyyyk you'll side with the guy helping the slavers if you're DS, and lead the fight to overhrow Czerka if youre' LS
6) You'll deal with the snad people by killing them (DS) or making peace (LS) on Tatooine
7) On Korriban you'll probably choose to side with a different person at the end of your test in the tomb
8) The only main difference comes when you meet Bastila on the roof of the Unknown World temple. If you choose LS, she flies off in her ship to the Star Forge, and you confront her again there, and fight her. If you choose DS, she comes with you to the SF, but most of your companions refuse to help you, and either run away or fight you. In place of Bastila on the Star Forge, you get to fight 3 Dark Jedi.

Hope that helped. Quite a lot of the side quests have Dark and Light solutions too; and one which you get on Manaan which has 5 parts is pretty much DS only, as doing it gives you about 6 DS points.
