this is how a romance ends???

Post by tigerone »

Not to beat an already downtrodden, crippled pony, but say you finish a romance, what happens next? Estrangement by silence? or love via telepathy?

I finally slept with Jaheira (before Elminster arrives for a final time), she's very happy the next morn but says let's move on before too late -- and c'est fini??? I'm not sure if I did make it to the end of this cursed bogslime-meandering scripted romance now...

At least she fights well, that's all I'm asking out of her now.

(BTW totally off topic, but I skipped out on fighting Reviane's Harper party early on, apparently high reputation (20) can dissuade her from attacking and respecting you...)

Alas, Terminsel visits me nearly every day; and Jaheira has thrown out more harper pins than I can count. She also greets me with the harty 'Goodmorning' every morning...also afternoon, evening, and in the middle of battle. I suppose it could be implied that she is actually putting out this often, but really now...our ceasless sexplay is going to make the rest of the party feel alienated. Image

Shall be lifted -- nevermore!

That's been somewhat confusing to me: What exactly triggers Jaheria's "good morning" message? It seems to happen at random times, but is it simply being awake when dawn breaks? (hour 5 or 6) Anyone know? Minor thing, just curious. And yes, I think the romances are unfinished, hopefully they'll expand more in the expansion.

Heh, well I wish she'd put out a little more for me (sniffle) -- oh why is she so mean to me (boo hoo)...(wahhh!)

Would anyone also care to help identify from what nationality, if any, her accent is derived from? Being an ignorant American, I'll venture to say that it's just proper diction and some enhanced phonetics -- and with me also being completely nonread in science fiction/fantasy except for the six pivotal Dragonlance books and David Eddings, when did elves have a tradition of being such highfalutins anyways? I only know of them as the short guys who make toys for cheap labor over at the North Pole...

@ tigerone- Elves are "highfalutins", at least, most of them. On most worlds they consider themselves superior to the other races. How haughty they are depends on what subrace they are, also.
Grey Elves are the worst about this, being a bunch of preppy scholars.

You read DragonLance, remember the way Laurana's family felt about humans?

You want a REAL elf and not the north pole variety found in AD&D, read Tolkein again and play the game using HIS elven races.

Re: accent, I contend that it is Russio-Scottish (whatever that means Image). Every time I begin to think it is one or the other, It begins to sound different to me.

Russian-Scottish... Rottish? Image

Accents aside, I'm very pleased with the way that BG2's spoken dialogues were handled; truly adds to the atmosphere...something I enjoy. Image

I don't entirely agree Agoth. In BG1/BG2 The Dwarves have a mixture of different accents - some Scottish, some Yorkshire, some anglicised Nordic.

Kagian in BG1 is American. Durlag Trollkiller from TOSC is part scots part Yorkshireman.

When the script is running NORMALLY, the only thing that triggers the "good morning" message is waking up immediately after the rest where she asks you to sleep with her. When the script screws up, as it almost inevitably does, she'll say it if you breathe too loudly in the general vicinity of your computer.

As to the accent for the person who asked, my guess would be Russian. I've studied the language for a while and that's the closest to what she sounds like. Not a great Russian accent, but I still really like it. Adds some character to the game.

And elves are snobs because they ARE better than everyone else. (grin) 'Cept dragons who are, of course, even snobbier.

Thanks guys for the info! What's amazing is that I actually work with a Russian postdoc in my laboratory, and I for the life of me could not match the inflection nor make the association between her accent and Jaheira's. Suffice it to say, the latter sounds MUCH more emphatic/"cooler." I must be deaf. And Korgan's accent is a bit thick for me, so I end up scrambling to read the subtitles (gameplay option).

I wonder if the Kebler elves are the shorter American version. Bah...they make horrible cookies anyway...

Still working on the Jaheira Romance quest, but... A glitch occured in my game where I was romancing Vic. A broken record effect kicked in, and now my PC gets some with here everytime I camp and rest! Score! suffice it too say, my PC is a very happy camper. (No pun intended). Also, my friend, who is heavy into programing, found a way to alter the in game script for romances. So, now, My new PC, a female cleric of Helm, named Laitia, is currently involved in a romance with Jaheira! Don't know about you people, but thats pretty sweet. I'm still trying to get him to tell me how it's done, and when he finally does, I'll post it here. I'm sure many sick people want to see that sort of thing.

ahem...I'm SURE you didn't mean that.

I've been trying to figure out a way to get my female kensai involved with Viconia for the next play-through. Short of changing her sex to male and her appearance & voice to female with Shadowkeeper, I'm stumped. But hey, that might work.

--edit--

which, now that I think of it, would make me a transsexual, heterosexual male who has faked Viconia into thinking she is having a lesbian affair. Image love it.

In response to the last, there is a simple way of doing this in Shadowkeeper.

1) Choose any gender (Male).
2) Start a new game. The game should autosave at the start, or you can save your own.
3) Then open ShadowKeeper, switch your gender (female), and save your edited savegame file. [Make sure you also change your "fighting character's looks" too, otherwise you look like a transvestite...]
4) Play your newest edited game and voila, now your PC is open to ALL romances.

If you've already started a game, and have not full committed to an available romance, just switch your gender in shadowkeeper, load your edited game, save it again, switch back to your original gender and load your new new latest edited game.

Why this works...
There are certain "flags"/"states" that are always checked when a game is loaded. One of them is your gender. Whatever gender a game recognizes, no matter at what stage of the game, it will check if certain flags exist; if not, then it sets a global state saying that your PC can have the following acceptable romance abilities. This is most apparent at the beginning a new game, where these states define what romances you may have. Once done, it will NEVER erase these new states. It will only change the value number of these global states so as to deactivate them when necessary. So if your character has not already fully picked an NPC for a romance (i.e. a full commitment), you can do my strategy at ANY savegame. And it will not have any detrimental effects on the game.

For instance, when you start a female PC game, the game acknowledges this and creates a state called:

Anomenmatch 1
AnomenRomance 1
AnomenRomanceactive 1

These states will not be erased! But if you switch gender to male "midgame," or at any point in the game with shadowkeeper, then the game engine adds the following states, as they were not there before:

Aeriematch 1
Jaheiramatch 1
Viconiamatch 1

Aerieromance 1
Jaheiraromance 1
Viconiaromance 1
Aerieromanceactive 1
Jaheiraromanceactive 1
Viconiaromanceactive 1

If at any point during the game you become fully committed to any one of these NPCs for good, then ALL OTHER RomanceActive settings are deactivated and set to 3. (Incidentally, the game will always check the romanceactive states so that there can only be one romanceactive setting at 2, which is the value for a full blown romance). The value of 3 then DEACTIVATES those scorned NPCs' romance scripts.

For those with abilities to use CLUA console commands, I believe it is even much simpler!

This is NOT tested by me, but it should work in theory...(ack, I'm a science lab rat so I personally know how such statements backfire on me)

CLUAConsole:SetGlobal("Jaheiramatch", "Global", 1)
CLUAConsole:SetGlobal("JaheiraRomance", "Global", 1)
CLUAConsole:SetGlobal("JaheiraRomanceactive", "Global", 1)

Maybe this might work...

Bah, Viconia ended up leaving me to end the romance cycle, so none of this matters to me. )cry(

I couldn't really say, because for some bizzarre reason I bought mine in spain, therefore Jaheira has a softly spoken castille accent, and Edwin is mexican.
