Crashing *Spoilers*

Post by Teolant »

I remember when it first crashed ... As you finish the Society of Leopold Quest, this was updated. But now, after fighting through everything I have ... after beating the Werewolf ... it crashes.

This happens after you get to the end of the Santa Monica bit where you have to fight through the vampires, hen you get to the taxi, I use the taxi guy and ... it crashes. Every time. I can only pray that someone out there can fix this, of course, those of you out there who are reading this know what it's like to get this far, you feel sort of attached to your character. Please, can someone help me?

Are you using the Official Patch 1.2 or the Unofficial Patch 2.5 ?

Have you by any chance listened to any of the taxi sound files using Windows Media Player since the last time you used the taxi?

Without further information, how should we help you ?

No computer specifications....which game version, language version, patch version do you use?...is it a crash to desktop, or a bluescreen?...

A lot of "?"....

It might be a corrupted save game, or a corrupted installation...or a patch problem....and so on...

Can you use an older save game to see if the crash is reproducable ?
If you have a total crash and get a bluescreen, what is the error message ?
Is it freezing your game ?

Okay...

The problem is either a bug in version 2.5 ( has anyone else played 2.5 yet ? ) or a corrupted game installation...

Can't tell ya about version 2.5, as I haven't played it yet, but in case it's a corrupted game installation, make a copy of your save game in a different folder, reinstall the game and the patches, copy your save game into the save game folder and try it again...

Not sure I haven't reached the Caine Cab ride in 2.5 yet, but will get to it soon now, if there is possibly of a bug.

I finished testing all the new items, addtions and tweaks for 2.5, except for the 3rd email from VV which are now scatered over time.

I am not aware of any changes to the ending and I test files for Wesp on the Unoffical patches.

One of the important things you have not mentioned is if your using Offical 1.2 patch?

Oh and you should never use and older save, when upgrading Unoffical patches that is asking for a bug, FYI.
You should read the info file if you are not sure, not the whole thing but the first couple of paragraphs to at least the newest update each time, as he adds important info. :)

Ok tested, finally reached Caines Cab and no crash, so I am betting it is your save game. :(

I have got a little crashing issue to. When I am in the quest:Fun With Pestilence and killed the second plaguebearer, Brother Kanker and found the flyer, I want to go into The Last Round to report back to Damsel. But when I'm opening the door, I get the loading screen (with all those tips and explanations) and then it crashes to my desktop. I tried other buildings and there I have no crashing issues. What could be the problem? Does anybody now the answer? Thanks.

P.s. I have installed official patch 1.2

Have you been listening to your Bloodlines tracks with Windows Media Player, I think Ministry's track is used in The Last Round?

Well another common possible solution to both of these crashes is try loading from an earlier save.
I personally make a save at the start of each city (which I never write over), make a Hard save (rewriting over it about ever hour) and use Qucik saves (often every 15 to 30 mintues).
This seem unecessary but this is an RPG that offers many actual choices in dialogues which have effects throughout the game and is very complex by it's nature, something most RPGs only aspire to, many may actually have choices but few actually affect the game world relationships.

Thank you all for your help.

I uninstalled it, then re-installed it and put on the patches. I finally finished the game. Thank you all.

One question, do you know who "emanates" darkness is? (Right at the end, before the credits)

I've been playing for 1.5 years and haven't the faintest idea what you are talking about. I'm playing a new game - I'll keep an eye out. Ask me who Christina is, no problem (singer for Lacuna Coil), but you've got me there.

Think Teolant is refering to the Cab driver, that was a comment by the Malk I believe, since he could be Caine?

First. Yes I have listend the Ministirty's track. I didn't hear anything strange. Secondly. I have made a save game before the door of The Last Round.
But is it possible that I followed the wrong order of quests?

Listening to any of the sound files has been known to cause the game to crash if you use Windows Media Player (and possibly other players). This is most likely why the game crashes at this point as it is when the file you listened to is supposed to play. It can be fixed by reinstalling (just make sure to backup your saves first).

I mean RIGHT at the end.

The next bit is so spoilery you'll have to highlight it to read it.

That is, I sided with the Anarchs. Mind Xiao is dead, and LaCroix opens up the chest and explodes, the camera then shows Jack and a Dead Mummy sitting in chairs, then it spins and pulls back and a guy walks in front of the camera with some form of power emanating from what appears to be his chest.

That guy.

Nobody knows who he is. There has been a lot of speculation about whether or not he is Caine but nobody knows for sure (plus a lot of the people who know a lot about the VtM PnP stuff say that it makes no sense for it to be Caine - of course this does not mean that he is not Caine as the game doesn't necessarily follow the PnP stuff accurately).

You never know....

It would be nice to hear from the developers about it, but that's probably never going to happen....
Maybe it was kind of a cliffhanger scene, so they could make a VTM 2 incase of good sales...

So by just reinstalling the game, the problem is fixed? Thank you mr_sir for the advice.

P.s. Do I have to reinstall the game only this once or even more times?

Reinstalling once should fix it as the problem is that WMP changes something in the sound files which causes the crash. By reinstalling you will get the original sound files back again, which should solve the problem. You shouldn't lose your saves by reinstalling but I'd back them up just to be on the safe side.
