Need Help! PLZ

i've recently gotten to play and enjoy this game. but i'm havin some problems. i want to put in the cheat codes..it seems to all work out (cuz i really suck at some things) and it says enable..i exit the console..but then...i'm frozen in time! wtf? what's goin on here? am i puttin it in wrong? or what? cuz i'd like to further the game with bonuses.

When entering cheat codes, make sure you pause the game by pressing Esc before using the console. When you have entered your cheats, exit the console before returning to the game. Using the console without pressing Esc to go to the in-game menu tends to cause it to crash.

Also, do a search for 'cheats' or 'console' as this question has come up repeatedly and the site owner doesn't want duplicate threads on the site.

If the previous post resolved your issue, then great. However, I have found, that few problems arise if you just press the "~" button to enter the console, type what ever you want to happen, and when you're done, DO NOT click the "X" to close the console - merely press the "~" again and it will close it for you, and alleviate many problems.
