Shadow Ruins Final Area - getting floating shadow crystal?

I can't seem to get the final shadow crystal that is floating above the whirlwind in the shadow altars section of the final Shadow Ruins area.

I get get fairly close to the crystal, but not close enough to have the shift key do anything. Is there a real trick to this? Can I use the character editor to solve my problem?

I've tried backflipping in, or jumping from the room corners, but I never get right into the center.

It is the part that probably the most annoying one of the game, imho.

I am not sure that there is a certain way to obtain the crystal, but i obtained it 3 times with different characters. In all of them i backflipped and ready m'finger on SHIFT. Becuase of ceiling is a semi-sphere, If you jump correctly, you stuck into ceiling revolving (sp/?) and you will have enough time to grip it.

backflips worked

I just kept backflipping, and hitting the shift key like crazy while in the air. It eventually worked. I just ignored the shades, healed when I had to, and got it done.
