Killing Firkraag (the lose Anomen way!)

Post by Jhareth of house Noquar »

There has been much discussion on this board about the best way to take on this foul beast... I had a great time doing it last night, and succeeded on my first try!
(SPOILER ALERT- don't read this if you want to face him fresh...)

First, I went in and talked with him, had him release his prisoner, but warned him that I would be back. I didn't even bother leaving his lair, I went back toward the entrance, and began my pre-casting.
Strength of One, Righteous Magic(Anomen),
I summon 1 Earth Elemental, 1 Arial servant, Wyvern call, and some Ogre beserkers.
Bless, Improved Haste(on Minsc), and Pixie dust on the whole group. I had Anomen go stand nose to nose with Firkraag, Minsc & Jaheira stood behind him, with all my summoned buddies flanking him. My PC (M/T), Imoen, and Aerie stood apart, to bombard him with magic from three angles.
My 3 casters began to hit him with Breach, Spell Thrust, and Pierce Magic, as everyone surrounding him began attacking. After his MR was down a bit, we began dumping spell sequencers, magick missiles, anything offensive at him.
He wing buffeted a few people, temporary unconsciousness, Jaheira, Minsc, and Anomen died, but only Anomen died permanently... & He is the weak link in my party, IMO. SO, now I have a party of five.... time to go find Viconia.
My only problem with this tactic is related to AD&D 2nd ed. rules... If I remember correctly, any dragon above age category 9 or 10 has the equivalent of permanent true sight... or at least detect inviso. I'm at work at the moment, so I can't reference my books. Either I'm remembering incorrectly, Firkraag isn't as old as I thought he was, or this rule was left out of BG2. Regardless, the result of last nights adventuring was ONE DEAD DRAGON!

There is an easyer way.

1. Get your thif some potions of master thiefery untill he has has a pickpocket skill aboove 150.
2. Pick-pocked all the stuff
3. Lower resistance in any way you can
4. Desinagrade him

******or*****
(what I did)

1. Set 9-10 traps.
2. He will be near death so 1 Magic Missile will kill him and atleast one will hit.
Vicsun, I certainly agree with your assertion that you are an unpleasant person. ~Chanak

Yes, but Anomen is still alive at the end of your scenario. I was quite pleased with the kill two birds with one stone tactic!

Yes ...but you could have sent Aerie in to get her payment as well..then you would have killed three birds with one stone. Image

Use my technique....

I got into the games hard code, found the Fierkraag bits, and smashed them to itty-bitty-pieces. I then realized I broke my game, went out, baught another one, then used a cloudkill from out of his LoS. So Phhbt! On all of you!

Actually, I tried letting Aerie take him on all by herself. She went in with her Staff +3, and smeared that dragon all over the cave. Firkraag even offered to convert to LG if she would spare him, in her infinite compassion... I figured I should have Aerie hang back, and let the rest of the party have a shot, because it just didn't seem fair to poor Firkraag... getting his butt whooped by a pretty little wingless elf... That's pretty impressive. My tactic was to cast

*DRAGON DOMINATION SPOILER*

"Domination" after lowering his magic resistence about three times. This proved to be a good tactic, as I took him with me out of the dungeon area. He had a green circle for about 9 hours (game time), and no enemy could stand in my way. Although I couldn't control what spells he could cast at foes (I think he's some special AI), he was a great ally. The best part was being able to consolidate my party (using the party formation buttons at the bottom) to *ride* Firkragg between areas of the map, with "0" hour traveling times between even the most remote locals. You think the drow fighting a lich is pretty tough? Do it with Firkragg in your party and it'll seem like a cake-walk.
What? Haven't you heard? God is dead! -FWN
