I am midway through Chapter 3 in the game and I have over 130,000 gold pieces. My chars are pretty well equipped, my mage has a great selection of scrolls, and I therefore have a question. What am I missing? Should I have this much? Are there things I'm not buying that I should be? Is there anything else to do with the extra cash? Is there a reason to hold on to it?

What? Haven't you heard? God is dead! -FWN
My first time through, I bought everything I wanted and finished the game with 150,000+. There's nothing to do with it as far as I know. You'd think that you could at least pay off the bastard Saemon.

Pheew! That's a lot of gold. I assume that you used the very security ignorant merchants to your adcantage no?
Download the bonus merchants from this site and install them. They are made for people with too much money on their hands. Otherwise you can wait until the secret stash is open in chapter 6. And having that much money means that you can safely ignore gems and coin thus speeding your game up quite a bit. Happy spending.

Well what can I say....your money does pile up pretty fast in the game....and I'm sure there are a lot of people that have had a lot more money than 130 000 Gp's.....there are plenty of options to what you can do with all that money...why don't you give it all to the beggars roaming the streets????...or perhaps spend it on the courtesans in the Copper Coronet...(if they are still there)....or why don't you buy all those weapons, potions, scrolls and that lovely armor that you've always been dreaming about????

yeah i was amazed with the abundance of money in bg2, i remember in BG trying to scrape together enough money to buy a suit of FULL PLATE MAIL!!!!! to be able to buy that was a massive feat. I think it made it more fun saving up and then being really pleased with your purchase, in bg2 you can buy a great bit of armour one moment and then 5 mins later pick up a far superior one. Bg2 seems to concentrate more on finding and being given items rather than buying them. In bg, gold was mainly what you got for completing quests.
There are no stupid questions, only stupid people.
